The YLD includes members of the SC Bar under age 36 and those with less than five years membership.
The Young Lawyers Division (YLD) is a dynamic community and professional service organization of the South Carolina Bar, specifically created for new lawyers who are in good standing under 36 years of age, or those admitted to the South Carolina Bar as their first bar for less than five years. The YLD coordinates pro bono, community and general legal services. It is a great opportunity for young lawyers to participate in the American Bar Association as well as assist the South Carolina Bar in carrying out its goals. The YLD serves as an excellent public relations tool for the profession providing a mechanism through which young lawyers fulfill their public service goals.
The Division's mission is to further the purposes of the Bar and thereby serve the needs of the public and the profession; to advance the administration of and access to justice; to foster among members of the Bar the principles of duty and service to the public; to promote professional responsibility; to involve young lawyers in the activities of the Bar; to conduct educational and social programs of interest and value to young lawyers, and to assist in the establishment, improvement and coordination of young lawyers organizations and events in South Carolina.
