South Central Louisiana Human Services Authority was established in 2006 to provide developmental disabilities and behavioral health services to residents of Assumption, Lafourche, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Mary and Terrebonne.

Story

The South Central Louisiana Human Services Authority (SCLHSA), was established in July 2006 by Legislative Act 449. The local governing entity (LGE) concept shifts policy authority and fiscal responsibility from a state-controlled central office to a locally nominated and appointed board of nine members representing each of the Authority’s parishes in the fields of community-based mental health, developmental disabilities, & addictive disorders. The statute provides that the SCLHSA shall direct the operation and management of public, community-based programs and services relative to mental health, developmental disabilities, and addictive disorders services for the parishes of Assumption, Lafourche, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Mary and Terrebonne.
The SCLHSA was created to be responsive to the local needs of the citizens in its seven parishes. It strives to identify and address local needs through partnerships with local governments, clients, advocates and providers. At the heart of this multi-parish agency is greater accountability to consumers, the community and the taxpayers.

Mission

To increase public awareness of and to provide access for individuals with behavioral health and developmental disabilites to integrated community based services while promoting wellness, recovery and independence through education and the choice of a broad range of programmatic and community resources.
