I've been coming here since I was an infant with my now deceased father, every road trip we stopped here and I am now on 35 with 5 of my own children, still visiting. This place still has all of his old charm and memories and lots of new comfortable additions. I feel no matter where I live I will be bringing my family here for the rest of my life! It's definitely historic for me!

It was fun, my wife and I didn't go in expecting a lot and certainly weren't disappointed. Lots of cool photo ops. Fun junk to shop your way through. Most stuff I'd seen before, but we still managed to find some gems we hadn't seen yet. Great dinner at the round steak house. All and all a very fun and relaxed experience.

We’ve stayed overnight three times in the past 2 years. It’s definitely declining in cleanliness and needs a good remodeling. Showers were not clean and missing several floor tiles. We did have a nice site with a clean grassy area adjacent to walk the dogs. Kitschy gift shop with a very friendly cashier. May not return to stay unless cleanliness improves.

South of the Border is a generational Landmark when traveling along the Eastern Seaboard. It is a great place to stop and find anything and everything you could ever want including free child rides. Unfortunately in February the very attractive Amusement Center was closed which was a disappointment. I give it three stars for the food the four stars simply because this is been around since before I was born and I'm an old geezer. if you need fireworks I would suggest somewhere else which is cheaper. Definitely a must stop for a much-needed travel break.

Some of the buildings that were on the map weren't there anymore or at least weren't easy to find (I wanted to visit the leather shop). My father and I ate at the "Sombrero Restaurant" and the food wasn't terrible but I wouldn't order it a second time. Just kinda plain and definitely not real Mexican food. The staff were very polite and we got everything we wanted/needed throughout all the buildings we visited. They had a lot of nice souvenirs for sale as well.
