SSM St. Clare Health Center, formerly St. Joseph Hospital of Kirkwood, opened in 2009. We are just a mile south of I-44, at Hwy 141 and Bowles in Fenton.

Story

SSM St. Clare Health Center opened in 2009 as the first full-service hospital built in St. Louis County in 35 years. The 180-bed facility is a member of SSM Health Care-St. Louis.

SSM St. Clare is a replacement hospital for SSM St. Joseph Hospital of Kirkwood, which served the community for 54 years. Our hospital is just a mile south of I-44, at the intersection of Hwy. 141 and Bowles Avenue in Fenton, Mo.

SSM St. Clare campus - complete with the SSM Heart Institute, SSM Neurosciences Institute, SSM Cancer Care, Ambulatory Surgery Center, Outpatient Procedure Center, Outpatient Diagnostic Center and Medical Office Building – is serving the needs of a rapidly expanding population in southwest St. Louis County.

I visited this facility in December during all the flu epidemic. I tried to go to St Anthony's (primary dr) and it had about 50 people in the lobby. My sister took me to St Clare and I had the BEST EXPERIENCE ever. They did something that I have never seen at any other hospital. They called me in, took vitals sent me back to waiting room, called me in did chest x-ray sent me back to waiting room, called me in and put in IV and sent me back to waiting room. When they had room available they called me back in. By the time I got to room (which was maybe hour total) they had my x-rays back and were ready to treat me (fluids). The doctor was amazingly nice and courteous and so were the nurses. I was truly impressed and would go back there in a heart beat. I have read some of the other reviews and some were not so good. But I can tell you I left there asking myself why I was using St Anthony's......

I have had a horrible experience with the billing department at SSM Health. I had surgery 3 different times in the last year and have always had a great experience with the St. Clare hospital though the billing department and their customer service is atrocious. I called trying to resolve a billing issue about one month ago today and was not only lied to on that day by one of the customer service representatives (telling me that she had listened to a recording of a previous conversation and telling me that I wasn't telling the truth to then find out by her supervisor that the recording doesn't even exist), but then I was lied to by her supervisor, Tiffany, as she said that she would contact her director to see if we can resolve the issue and call me back to let me know what she found out. Not only did Tiffany never call me back on that conversation, but over the last couple of weeks she would not return my calls either. When you say you are going to call someone back, do it! She claimed that a letter was sent to me explaining everything, though the only letter that was sent to me was dated before we even had that conversation and it did not mention anything about the conversation that TIffany had with her director. Either she did not listen to anything I said or SSM Health does not care. Even though the medical care is excellent the billing department is in serious need of better customer service training. A simple phone call back would have been nice. Go somewhere else if you have a choice.

I have a history of heart and vascular disease and when I had to call an ambulance to bring me in for chest pains requesting St. Claire. I was directed to the waiting room. Mind you that with my heart issues, they say to be safe rather than sorry. Just to be treated like i was an inconvenience. Dr. James Smith is my cardiologist there, who is a great doctor but, I have to say that their er has alot to be desired for. It isn't the first time I have had problems with them. I'm not going into my hernia operation disaster. The medical industry makes too much money off of us to treat us like degenerates.

After a prenatal kidney stone scare in 2016 & delivering my baby in an emergency c-section in 2017, I would recommend this hospital hands down! I’ve never met a nurse on staff that wasn’t excellent & personable! Facilities are excellent as well! Great doctors!!

I've been here for Drs appointments tests and the birth of a child. Every time the attention provided by staff volunteers and others has been exemplary. Wonderful facility.
