The State Library advocates for Iowa libraries and promotes excellence and innovation in library services in order to provide statewide access to information for all Iowans.

Story

The State Library - Main Library is located on the corner of E. 12th St. and Grand Avenue. Parking is located behind the building. The State Library - Law Library, located in the Capitol, has visitors' parking lots in various areas around the Capitol.

Facebook Guidelines
The purpose of Iowa Library Services' (IaLS) Facebook account is to:
• Inform the public and libraries about IaLS resources and activities
• Provide a forum for interactive communication with IaLS customers
• Provide information and discussion to supplement other IaLS communication sources, such as websites and e-mail messages.
The State Library welcomes feedback from customers. Any customer concerns will be handled promptly and courteously.
Comments may not:
1. Use offensive language or hate speech
2. Be abusive or defamatory
3. Violate copyright, trademark right, or other intellectual property right of any third party
4. Be spam, commercial in nature, or organized political activity
5. Be off topic
IaLS Facebook administrators will modify or remove any postings that are deemed inappropriate.

The two roles of the agency are to improve library services in Iowa and deliver specialized information services to state government and Iowans.The State Library began as a territorial library in 1838 by an Act of Congress and transitioned to an agency when Iowa reached statehood in 1846, with the mission to provide services to state government. Over the years, this mission grew to include the planning and development of library services on a statewide basis.Today, the State Library, a division of the Iowa Department of Education, offers a multitude of services and programs to the libraries, state employees, and citizens of Iowa."
