Story

The State Theatre and Bijou by the Bay present the very best new movies, with world-class picture, screen, and sound — right downtown. Plus, we bring so many classic and special films to our big screens with 16,000 watt Dolby Digital sound that we end up showing over 400 different films annually! Academy Award-winning director Michael Moore is our volunteer programmer, selecting the best of cinema's present and past for you to watch in the most comfortable seats you can find anywhere — and they were made right here in Michigan!

The State Theatre transports you back in time and provides you with a nostalgic and memorable movie experience. You are first greeted by incredible volunteers who really enhance this experience with their obvious passion for this Theatre. Next, if you’re in the mood for a treat, you will notice the more than reasonable concession prices. Note: A large bag of popcorn for $5 is virtually unheard of in 2017. The acoustics, seating and decor is easily worth the price of admission. The State Theatre makes you fall in love with movies all over again.

We took our little guy to the Saturday morning kids movie. It was a blast and tickets are only 25 cents! They have booster seats for kids too! Definitely a fun old time theater! Great experience :)

Great place to take a date or see a unique independent film! There is very atmospheric lighting in the theater up the walls, leading to stars shimmering in the ceiling. At the front there is a big velvet curtain in front of the screen!
