VALUE ENGINEERING
◾Stava Building Corporation considers value engineering to not only be beneficial to our clients, but an essential part of the design and construction process. Simply put, value engineering is a five-step process that allows for cost-savings to be gained by minor changes to the scope of work. Allowing for a product suited specifically to the clients’ needs in a manner that is also financially efficient. Each of the five-steps to value engineering takes analysis, creative thinking, and consistent communication with the client to bring the desired results with more effective products.
1) Information Phase – Discussions between the client and architect to determine the goal for design and essential function of the facility.
2) Speculation Phase – This is the “brainstorming” phase. With the clients’ needs in mind the project manager and architect work hand-in-hand to identify areas that may allow for possible savings. Alternate products may be selected which offer economy and/or better performance.
3) Evaluation Phase – Once the areas of savings have been identified, the design and construction team present their value-engineering recommendations to the client in the form of a “value-engineering proposal.” Phase 1 and 2 are repeated until the desired result is reached for the client.
4) Development Phase – The design team updates the scope and architectural plans to represent the accepted changes from the value engineering proposal.
5) Presentation Phase – Once all changes have been made to the scope, specifications, and plans the design team and/or general contractor presents the updated proposal to the client.
