Oh how the mighty have fallen. It’s been several years since I’ve eaten at Steak ‘n Shake and I’ve heard stories on how much they’ve change. When I went inside, I was surprised to see that all food orders were to be done on a touch screen. Gone are the times of being seated and served. It looks like they’re really going the fast food route. The food as well while ok doesn’t have the same uniqueness as before now tasting like every other fast food type. Times have changed I guess.
I’m leaving this to mark the time I was never so angry and never wanting Steak ‘n Shake ever again from anywhere, but especially North Druid Hills. I ordered around 3:50pm off the “before 4pm” savings items two double cheese burger meals. I was behind six cars so I expected a wait. At 4:15pm when I get to the window, they didn’t have my order correct. In fact, it had to be rung in again. When I paid, it took me a second to process why I’m paying over $17. I have remained calm to this point even when I’m having to repeat my order to get the correct drinks and condiments. Anyway, I asked for the receipt to see the breakdown. Lady doesn’t have it, went to get “manager,” and this is when I lose it. The condescending 22ish guy “apologies” and when I request a discount for the next time I’m not even asking for an adjustment right then he says sure ask for Sam, “I’m always here.” No buddy, I need something in writing. He struggles to get receipt tape and writes down his name and as he hands it to me, he offers a free shake. “That’s NOT good enough.” I took it and split not because of being satisfied but because the people behind me had waited long enough. There is a side to me that thinks he bought the restaurant himself as a co-owner with corporate, and he’s just trying to do his best. Honestly, there is always a long wait there no matter the time, and I’m sure losing my business is no big deal to his bottom line. But, it was an extremely aggravating experience. Yet, I got way more than a future free shake. I got a ridiculously funny to me now that I’m home writing this story. Thanks, Sam! #thisisgonnahurtmemorethanitsgonnahurtyou
After Waiting in the drive-thru for My Order for over 20 minutes and also watching a customer in front of me give back their order I Decided to check my order before I drove off. Looking at the Horrible Prepared food I knew immediately that was Not what I had Order because It had an excessive amount of THICK Onions on it. A worker came Out about the same time I was disgusted by what was given to Me and stated I was Given the wrong order and they would give me my correct one. At that time I didn’t want to chance their ability to read and comprehend correctly and Also Another 20 plus minute waiting I just wanted My Money back at this point. The Manager on duty was not capable of making a decision for a refund and Had to call another manager. I was told then it would Be 5-7 days because I used my card. I let the wannabe manager know That was unacceptable since a reversal could be done since they were Wrong. Eat here at your Own risk AND CHECK YOUR FOOD BEFORE LEAVING BECAUSE COMPREHENSION Is NOT A REQUIREMENT at this location. I Will NOT BE WASTING MY TIME OR MONEY HERE EVER AGAIN. YOU ARE HEREBY BEING WARNED.
I have had Steak 'n Shake in the past, and wasn't terribly impressed, but I thought I'd give it another try. All things considered, it was pretty solid! I wouldn't say their drive thru was quite "fast food" speed, but it was worth the wait. Even though they weren't my favorite, I was given a generous amount of fries, which was nice. The best part was definitely the double steak burger though. The smash burger crunchy edges were excellent. I'd probably add more toppings next time, though. I usually like lettuce and tomato in addition to pickles and onions. Definitely a good burger, though!
$5 for this chili dog that looks like garbage. They got my order wrong. The food was all cold. It’s like they aren’t even trying at all. DisappointedFood: 1/5

I haven’t been here for several years, but thought I’d give it another try to rede them selves….sorry for the spoiler alert. The sign on the door says “No milkshakes!” Not a good start. There are no employees at the self service order kiosk. Where you find out the your $4.44 special needs a $2.65 drink. They also give you the option to tip…. We had no interactions with any employees. We went to the self service drink fountain to find two choices were “out”. Your name is called out and you return to the counter where your order is placed. Once again no one ask you if you needed anything else. We needed a knife, and the ranch dressing that was missed on our order….but gave up on the knife and the cup of ranch dressing was slid over the counter. Chairs were on tables to keep the few patrons in the nearby booths. Floors were sticky. On the bright side the “smashed” burgers tasted good. Maybe see you in another few years.
The two Frisco Melts we ordered were good and the milkshakes were delicious. The wait time and customer service, not so much. Take away some of the self serve kiosks and I’ll be happyFood: 4/5
Amazing burgers and great service! They make everything fresh, so it takes longer. Sometimes it takes ridiculously long though. I waited for nearly 30 minutes over the lunch hour recently and there was only 5-6 cars in front of me to start with. But nonetheless the burgers are awesome.
I genuinely don’t like leaving reviews; however, it’s different in this case. These people refused to remake my order after their drive thru operator neglected my details. Instead of fixing it, they wiped off the bun and threw it back in the box. I wouldn’t recommend this location, at least not with the current staff.
