I felt the food was okay. I tried the vegetarian combo, which was reasonably priced as well. I would say Rasmalai is a Must-try. It was deliciously
I did takeout. The food was tasty and the portion sizes are decent. They did give a hugeeee box of rice per dish. When I went to pick up there weren’t many eating there for dinner I imagine it’s more of a lunch or takeout spot.Food: 4/5
Just got to NYC for the first time and needed some comfort food. So I turned to my go-to, Indian. The hotel front-desk kept trying to send me to upscale places. Needless to say, I don't care for high-class in my blue jeans and Indian that breaks the bank. Google pointed me to Swagat on 29th Street and wow! They were great. I got there on a Sunday evening expecting crowds, only to have the place to myself. I ordered my usual test options to see how good of a place this is. Veggie Samosas [caution, these are spicy], Chicken Korma, and Garlic Naan It was pretty hard to beat what they served me. It was fresh, and super quick. Under 5 minutes...probably because it wasn't rush hour The place did fill in eventually and everyone seemed pleased with their food. One suggestion for first-timers. I'm a fan of spice, but usually go for a medium at a new place to test the waters. If I would order this meal again, I'd go for spicy. I'd totally go back...and I may just do that before I depart. No need to break the bank at the high-end places, stop into Swagat for a fine meal.
This place is à gem, when à resurant slaps this hard everyone needs to know about it. The interior is spacious and clean, the food looked great even from a distance, smells great as you enter the store..... and the best part? This is going to sound so stupid but actual Indian people eat here! hahaha
Great food, quick customer service.Food: 5/5
I will only change my review because of this this place is good but why the hell do they always not have people inside it's supposed to be packed with people? And the food is really good the sagg and the chicken Tikka Masala is really good but how in the world you guys don't even have pumpkin and rice?? , it makes no sense when that's the best Indian dish there is and the samosas is so good that tiny Tamron sauce and the other sauce that give you is really alot , but the food is very tasty and good made fresh all the time , I want to try there curry chicken next , tha staff needs to improve tho that Indian old man can't understand anything , tha lady they have is a very nice , I will never try that mango lassy because is beyond sweet and packed with sugar.
Easily the best indian restaurant I have found since moving to manhattan!! The service is always quick and friendly. The portions are insaaaane for how affordable it is. Truly a massively underrated establishment.lFood: 5/5
This is a delicious and reasonable little India restaurant near Penn Station. The food is delicious and the chicken platter is fantastic at $10. Definitely stop in if you like Indian food! Service was excellent pointing out the affordable option. They also have and excellent mango drink.
When the mood for Indian food struck me I picked this place because it was close by. This establishment is a hybrid of takeout, fast food, and dining in. What cheapened the experience for me was that I was given plastic ware for a sit down dinner, giving it more of a fast food feel. However, the food was good and satisfied my cravings for Indian cuisine.
Been coming here for the past 7 years since I started working in the area. I come in hungry and always leave extremely happy. I crave Indian food regularly and this place always hits the spot. The owner and his staff are incredibly kind and are always willing to go the extra mile. The last time I ate there, I was left with a little extra rice and so I asked for a little extra sauce to finish off the rice. They were kind enough to top me off! It's the little things like that that keep people coming back. Thanks for all the amazing meals over the years!
