This is a beautiful bridge and absolutely beautiful views from this bridge. I have to use this bridge quite a few times a year and it's always been a peasant ride and very efficient.  Not much of a wait on the paying side. And they are building another bridge right next to it . So I'm figuring it going to make the ride even more efficient.

I walked over this bridge the first day it opened. Was really impressed. Also watched it being constructed in the 1950s. Was really shocked that it is being replaces so soon. I remember the beautiful mansion that was located in the right of way to the bridge. Very elegant and gone.  The original bridge cost shot up because of the Korean War. The price of steel more than doubled  by the time the construction started in the mid 50s. Also there were questions about the quality of the steel used. I had friends who would not step foot on this structure for that reason. Congratulations to the people of New York of replacing the original structure with a cable stay bridge. It is going to be a really beautiful bridge that you will be proud of. It will also last much longer than the original.

What can you say about a bridge? It is big and connects sides. Tappan Zee is also my favorite way over the Hudson. Driving west is valuable for avoiding the Big Traffic. Views are pretty. This is a newer bridge. Watvh out for guys in muscle cars practicing the aggressive defense kane straddle style of driving.

I usually take this route to NYC or New Jersey from Massachusetts since the toll is cheaper and minimal traffic even though it's little detour and adds around 40 miles extra from my place to NYC but it's convenient.

It is in the process of being rebuilt. 1 span is finished with both directions using it. The second span should be finished in the next year or so. Traffic moves well now that the toll plaza is gone. Just bring your express. They charge extra to mail you a bill for the toll.
