Sales people are superficially pleasant, high-pressure, and lie wildly just to get you to buy as much as possible. The products are wildly overpriced and *many* of the teas contain a lot of artificial flavors -- so much for being "gourmet"... You can get better quality, and a more natural, gourmet flavor from the boxes of Celestial Seasonings in Walmart...and for less than 1/2 the price. Last time I was in there, I had a long conversation with a sales clerk. I mentioned I was far from home (2hrs+) on a trip. I also mentioned (multiple times) that artificial ingredients disagree with me and make me quite ill -- which is one of the reasons I started drinking teas instead of the "juices" you find at the supermarket. He proceeded to sell me two teas with abundant amounts of artificial flavoring in them. There was no label on the bags to inform me these artificial ingredients were in the teas and there wasn't anything I saw in the store telling me the ingredients, so I was at the mercy of the sales clerk who was obviously more interested in a sale than my wellbeing. It was just a stroke of luck that I took the initiative to look up the ingredients online when I got home instead of just brewing the tea. I feel like they went too far just trying to get a sale out of me dispite what health reactions I may have...and the fact that the salesperson knew I was far from home (i.e. couldn't easily return any items) made it feel that much more deceptive. I complained to the corporate office, but they didn't care. They even claimed that their artificial flavors are "naturally derived" and that the only reason they have to call them "artificial" is because of the FDA. Well...it seems no one told the FDA this, because according to the FDA's own Code of Federal Regulations: "The term artificial flavor or artificial flavoring means any substance, the function of which is to impart flavor, which is not derived from a spice, fruit or fruit juice, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible yeast, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or similar plant material, meat, fish, poultry, eggs, dairy products, or fermentation products thereof." --They should be shut down for such deceptive behaviors and business practices...and putting someone's health at risk like that. For shame. What if this was my daughter or son that had a sensitivity to those ingredients? They could've gotten really sick!
