In 1992 the Peacock family bought an old Exxon station with one purpose in mind – to create in San Antonio the same great barbecue that can be found in some of the small towns across Texas. The result is the best barbecue in all of South Texas. At the Barbecue Station you will find all the traditional meats and side dishes. What you won’t find are fancy tablecloths and all the non-barbecue items found in so many of the chain BBQ restaurants. If what you’re looking for is authentic wood smoked barbecue where all the sides are made fresh daily from scratch, then the Barbecue Station is your place. Come see Zac or Freddy and let them pull your choice of meat right off the pit and slice it in front of you. Then enjoy your meal in the company of local San Antonians from bank presidents to construction workers.

It was my second time here and I have to say that I am really impressed with the Barbecue Station. Parking can be a little bit of a trick because of how busy the place is, but I think that it is well worth the time and effort. Once you walk through the door you are met with a warm medley of smoke and spice; but not so much as to be over powering or unpleasant. It's a great blend of simple and sophisticated. No matter how busy they are or how long the line is, the staff takes the time to say hello and get your order right. There are plenty of options to choose from and they are all budget friendly and a great value. Thus far I have tried the brisket, beef ribs, and chicken quarter and I have nothing but positive feedback on them. The taste is amazing and the portions are very good especially when you consider the price. The selection of sides and side specials allow you to mix and match and change up your typical order. The French fries are made fresh to order and are phenomenal. The Cole slaw is fresh and not overbearing. The jalapeño Mac and cheese (which was a special) was quite delightful. Once you place your order, the dining room is self service. You can get your drinks, utensils, veggies (onions, lemon, etc), and napkins. Every table has its own BBQ sauce, but try and find a spicy one lying around for even more amazing flavor. The sauces are very good and made in house. The atmosphere is very nice and unique, it presents a balance of classic signage and a lodge. It is very open but every corner has something that will catch your eye. The restaurant is kept nice and clean. I really can't recommend this place more and I will probably be back in the next week.

My partner and I were eating at the BBQ Station 2 days ago. Being from Switzerland, we have no clue about BBQ and it took us time to find out what we should order. (What is a Brisket? – We understand something about cheese and chocolate😊) The staff was friendly and explained the plates. They looked a bit puzzled when we asked for wine. We decided for rips and brisket with coleslaw and potato-salad and french fries. Meat was excellent, but also the sides were wonderful, best coleslaw and potato-salad we had so far. The restaurant is very simple and we will not come dressed up next time 😊 – but there is definitely a next time.

My second visit was far less impressive than my first. Aside from slowww line movement and service (cashier was food server). Handling food and cash - a big no no in food service. What are your thoughts? Sure it's the same, unsanitary. But, it got worse. Ordered the chicken plate. Sadly, the poor thing died twice. Aside from being overcooked and the color of moonless night, it was so dry even the tea could not compensate for the dry breast I attempted to eat. The only thing that made my visit was the live music. The two guys were fantastic!! Really, they are that good. I'm not writing off this location. I will return but, a long talk with the pitmaster, better product quality control and a dedicated cashier will get a better rating next visit. If not, it will be my last. Even the great music will not outweigh sad food.

The food and service here are outstanding. A true family owned and operated location I was waited on by the father my friend was waited on by the son. Both are very friendly and the food is amazing!! Can't go wrong here!!

I don't know how anyone could have rated this place lower than a 5. The food was amazing and real Texas BBQ. Food was reasonably priced. Was so good went back and ordered more food. Not only was the food great the staff are very friendly. Highly recommended if you're looking to bring friends and family to true authentic Texas BBQ. Wish we found this place sooner. Will definitely be back.
