Love the old train car! Great food, fair prices (very fair if you account for the fresh food you see being made right in front of your eyes), friendly staff, who in turn has attracted a very friendly "frequent flyer" crowd. Whether you've lived here you're whole life looking for a quick homemade bite to eat, or just passing through and want a reason to remember Horseheads, you'll love The Diner!!!!

The food was good. Prepared right in front of you. Portions were smaller than other diners. This diner is a small car style diner. Don't expect much room. Dress comfortably but be mindful that you'll freeze in the winter or in the summer next to the AC. Ventilation isn't great but that is kind of expected.

It is in a traditional diner car: it has a long counter surrounded by seats, and the wall opposite the counter is covered by narrow booths. These could comfortably seat four of us, but it would be a squeeze to get one more seated. The aisle between the counter and booths is quite narrow, and it is here you will wait if they are full up, which they were when we visited. We had a late breakfast and the food was quite good, if somewhat eclectic, and the prices are great. Service was provided by two waitstaff for everyone in the diner, so it was slow at times. It was 10 oF on the day we went, and from this experience you should dress warmly if it is cold outside--the heating system and insulation leave a lot to be desired. All in all, a fun, pleasant experience.

Quick, good but visually you could tell it was thrown together. Fresh veggies in my omelette, not really blended with the eggs. Don't get the potatoes,no flavor.

The food was awesome, fastest service I have ever seen. The only reason I didn't give a five star rating is because it was super hot. We were at the bar by the grill an the air conditioner wasn't reaching us. If you could get a seat outside or in the booths I think it would be fine. Definitely worth a stop.
