I highly recommend The Gates Salon! The new location in Old Town Pasadena is near my credit union and near tons of great places to eat. I parked for free at the public parking structure on Raymond (next to the Armory Center for the Arts), but there also seems to be excellent street parking on Holly and on Raymond. Michel, the owner, is outstanding listener about what I want/need, and he used a razor to give me the BEST textured short haircut I've ever had--and I have extremely difficult hair. I've been getting so many compliments on my new look! Everyone is super friendly and nice, and little touches like offering me something cool to drink (especially in this summer heat) make going in a relaxing treat. I have trouble believing the one star review posted here on Google Reviews recently; I personally check out the collection of other reviews written by a reviewer when they give a business one star, to get a sense of what kind of person they are and how they view the world.

I went to redeem a 'gift to you' certificate which I was told had expired.  I had always thought gift certificates do not have expiration dates per California Civil Code Section 1749.5(a), hence, I never looked for one on the card which apparently was on the back.  I was in disbelief!  The receptionist added that the certificate was purchased during a promotion.  She finally gave me the value of the purchased price and I paid the difference.  

That would be my first and last time to go there.  I also had to wait for the masseuse for at least 15 minutes.  No apologies were given.
