The Gilded Acorn
"The Gilded Acorn provides specialness and exclusivity to its guests, much in the same way a squirrel tucks away caches of acorns to be found later and feasted on when the leaves have all fallen and these decadent underground caches are relied upon. A beautifully unique and iconic space for culture and luxury, the Gilded Acorn embodies the soul of a French patisserie. Located in the heart of the historic First National Center, it is the perfect place to indulge in conversation and excellent food."

One of my fondest memories is working at the Colcord Hotel during the construction of the Devon Tower. During that time Chef Black was creating Flint. It was an honor to watch him and his staff create a long lasting, one of a kind dining experience. Now years later he has done it again. First National Center has been reborn and there is nothing better than a hotel bakery and coffee shop. The Gilded Acorn Eatery & Patisserie is classic but modern dining for anyone who enjoys the finer dining in life. A simple to the point menu with classic eatery delights. Every detail has Chef Black’s signature all over. From the amazing staff and the way you are greeted and waited on, to the interior design. The guilty pleasures that exist in this shop are in abundance. Mine is a chocolate croissant and this one is just right. If you order to go you will receive a beautiful bag or box. If you are there for coffee, give the barista time to make the best flavor. This is a place to be patient with. A place to savor the taste and also the experience. Magnificent
Nice little lunch spot and a great place to get a cup of pumpkin chai tea or a beautiful French dessert. The service here is excellent and the vibe is both elegant and casual. Sandwiches are very substantial and come with beautiful sides of fruit. The pastries looked delicious and I wish I could have tried them all, but I went for the Mouse, a signature of the Gilded Acorn. It is a rich, dark, chocolatey concoction that will satisfy every sweet tooth out there.
Excellent place! Food was delicious and the service/waiters were outstanding! Suggestions: it would be nice if there were different milks besides Almond to choose from for your coffees I.e. coconut. And raw sugar would be a good option to choose from for sweeteners. Oh! And the pastries were simply divine! ate them before I took pics.
With one of the most unique and stylish seatings, with well crafted coffee drinks and mixes like latte and cappuccinos - The Gilded Acorn has nailed their name on the Wall Of Fame in the OKC downtown. The taste of their pastries is incredible while the keys of their latte’s ingredients is beyond expectations.
I've been twice now. The first time I was there, I called in my order and it still wasn't ready when I got there over twenty minutes later. But, my food was hot and yummy, and the coffee was outstanding. I'll give that visit three stars. Two weeks later, I went back. This time I ordered in the restaurant - the same coffee and a ham and cheese croissant, warmed. The cost for that was 14 dollars, which... fine, but it better be good. I got my coffee in a timely fashion, but waited for the croissant well over 15 minutes, while employees stood around chatting. When I finally did get the food and left I'd ordered to go, the croissant was cold and burnt to a crisp. The coffee was also underwhelming and tasted nothing like it had the first time I ordered it, even though I'd ordered the same thing. I can only give one star for that visit, resulting in an overall rating of two stars. I work in a building across the street and was thrilled to have an alternative to Stella Nova, but I am disappointed so far, which is not something I ever thought I'd say about an Andrew Black eatery. UPDATE: 11/1 - I hadn't been back since my above mentioned awful experience, but I was desperate today and had a late lunch so most other "on the way" options were closed. I happened to stop in while the chef was on site and was amazed at the difference in service. My food was perfect and my coffee was on point. I was in and out in under 10 minutes - if this were the experience every time, they'd have lines out the door.
I want to like it. Been there twice. Most likely will not return in the near future. The decor is inviting and cool. You feel special. Only issue was the metal chairs dragging on the tile floor when sitting or standing up. Yes, i tried picking up the chairs Insane loud noise. I enjoyed the macaroons, they're delightful, but disappointed to learn they are not made there, instead from a local bakery. The salad we both wanted was out, so we chose a different one and it was warm. I've never had an intentionally warm salad, it was good but I was put off at first. The staff look professional, but are young and inexperienced. First visit the server spilled the coffee onto the table and my husband's hand. Second visit a different server spilled the water all over my hand while pouring. Our family is getting ready to have a very special event soon and I inquired about having a custom cake made for the occasion and considered having it at the gilded acorn. I was told they don't do things like that. Overall, it's a neat concept, maybe the business is going through growing pains and will work it all out.
I have enjoyed lunch at the Gilded Acorn many times. Today however was a very bad experience. The tables weren’t being attended to and at least 4 hadn’t been cleaned when we arrived a little after 1 pm. We were billed for items we did not receive. It took 30 minutes longer than stated for a to go order a turkey sandwich, they brought a guest at our table the wrong order and then argued about whether the item ordered was on the menu. Of course it was on the menu and then they did send someone to apologize but not the staff member who claimed we made up the menu item None of our meals were served at the same time so everyone was waiting. Then a staff member was repeatedly attempting to bus our table before we had finished eating and after we asked the staff member to wait until we were finished eating our dessert before taking our napkins etc. This repeated undesired behavior was after the lunch rush so not many parties were in the restaurant, no one was waiting to take our table and we should be allowed to finish the meals we waited on and overpaid for. The same staff member attempted to throw a gift for a member of our party away; when alerted to the mistake, they did not put the gift back until being told quiet bluntly to do so. It was ridiculous. The Gilded Acorn must have a lot of new staff members who need hospitality training. I won’t return anytime soon in hopes they have the opportunity to correct their myriad of problems. Find another spot for lunch or tea until this place can train their staff appropriately. Try the Skirvin instead.
Major disappointment during both visits. Especially considering the high level of attention to detail at the Chef’s other establishments. Unremarkable coffees. Routine, frozen pastries. Main cashier is regularly tense and lacking customer service. There is no quality or consistency with the food items. Cold plate. Lukewarm eggs. Old lipstick on the water glass. Perhaps this is meant to be a low overhead, high profit enterprise. Wont be back for years, waiting for the quality and culture to mature.
Excellent customer service! Very attentive. Best quiche, cruffin, and mimosa I have ever had! I didn't know quiches could taste that way! The texture of the quiche was light and fluffy, not dense like I've had before. I'm so thankful to have so many talented chefs here in OKC! I will definitely be back to try more. If you haven't gone, this place is a must!
Decor was very nice, workers lacked any form of customer service. The red velvet cupcake….surely was made a few days ago and so was the eclair. Will not be back! The high price isn’t a factor If the food is worth it.
