Went for a comedy show and decided to order food. I had Chicken wings which were tough and didn't seem fully cooked or well seasoned. Companion had grilled shrimp w/fries hungry! Place has great potential and is in a decent location. Tip: Get a good chef/cook and promote more events
Some call it down-home country, some prefer soul food, low country, the terms differ BUT this is certainly the kind of fare many of us had on our dinner table growing up, and done very well. This is still a new establishment, the interior isn't completely finished yet but it's fine, they dress it up comfortably, the service is super friendly and nice, and they have easy jazz music playing gently. I've had the red beans & rice, and the fried shrimp. These aren't the creamed version of red beans which is fine with me though some I know prefer the creamed, generously cluttered with slices of a good mild sausage served on rice cooked quite well. For sides I had mac & cheese, very cheesy and toothsome, and cooked cabbage also quite well prepared, with complimentary cornbread muffin, the sweet type. I have subsequently had the fried shrimp basket and it's VERY good. The French fries are Mmmmm... they don't advertise it but I have to suspect they are using fresh cut not frozen potatoes, because these reminded me so precisely of the French fries Mom made after I spent time pushing the peeled spuds through a VegAMatic prior to delivering them to the hot oil. They're MY favorite French fries available in town now. Easily. AND a meal is no more than $15, with several lunch specials at $10 with two of those good sides. They serve breakfast all day, I'm trying that next time, it's said to be pretty exceptional. This is a place deserving of an audience, for the food, the prices, and the very very nice people running it. IF I have a couple of suggestions for them number one would be, to add to their quite good selection of sides, fried okra. It's just a natural for the other things on the menu. Also, offer table vinegar and/or Louisiana style hot sauce. These condiments are naturals for this Southern style fare as well. I liked it and will be back!
Visited this location this past Saturday. The food was good, the DJ was playing nice jams. The owner David was very nice and welcoming. Great hospitality given by the bartenders and owner. I will be back soon to try their smothered pork chops.
We went to the new restaurant called the hive for Sunday brunch. The prices were amazingly low , the staff was very accommodating and quite friendly. The portions are generous. The wait staff are somewhat inexperienced but helpful. However, the most exciting detail of this restaurant is that the food is amazing. The menu is very simple but everything is done perfectly. I had the chicken and waffles my wife had the pancakes with eggs and bacon and grits. The waffles and the pancakes Tasted like the same batter. The pancakes came out first and we had no silverware so I began tasting them without syrup or butter. It’s was like eating a cake. They did not need either. The bacon was home cut and tasted great with crispy large pieces of meat The hanger steak was done medium well and although that is not the way I like my steak it still tasted very good and was still juicy. It was not overly salty and had good flavor. The eggs we’re ordered soft scramble and came out perfectly . The fried chicken was spot on. The batter was light with the perfect amount of salt and cooked perfectly as well. The food in this place is amazing and I hope that they continue to Cook this well. I believe they need to increase their prices by at least 20 or 30% so that they can maintain their quality and still make money. This place tastes like it is a chef driven restaurant. I hope they can work out the business part of the restaurant so that they will be here for the future . We have needed a place like this in Shreveport Bossier for a long time
I have visited this place twice and gotten the same weird vibe on both occasions...like a glitch in the Matrix. I eat at odd times so maybe its just bad timing. The first time I walked d in this place months ago the guy who im guessing is the owner was sitting at a table admonishing a woman. About her waiting performance who looked emotionally beat down. The exact same thing happened today. The..exact..same..thing.
Teen night was really fun. Theres always something going on to entertain you here. Bartenders on adult nights are extremely friendly and knowledgable. WILL attend future events here!
Great soul food. Came in for the Sunday Brunch, and was not disappointed. I liked the grits - and I usually HATE grits - and the omelet was great. The staff is fun and friendly, and I really hope The Hive continues to succeed.
Do not go on your lunch break, y'all be later getting back to work on time. Service is not good, employees arguing in front the customers. Seems they were more interested service their "Family and Friends" than paying customers. The Food is no different than what I can cook at home. I TRULY WANTED to suppose this business as Black Owned but as usually we dont serve each other well.
Had the breakfast platter..it was good,my friends had an omelette..yummy until she found a string of hair in it...service was fair, had a hard time finding someone to pay..they didn't care that Debbie had hair in her food.
It was a lovely experience, I love the way they had the tables set up for social distancing, plenty of space in the place. Nice neat and clean, super friendly staff. The grown folks environment.
