About

Our mission is to provide our neighbors and friends a gathering place to relax around heartwarming food.

Story

The Homesteader Café was founded by husband and wife team, Megan Kendall and Jeremy Lane. The Homesteader Café is an extension of our home, a warm welcome to be part of a community that believes in good food sourced from Kansas City’s farmers and served in simple, well-prepared dishes.

Step into The Homesteader Café, located in the heart of downtown Kansas City, and be greeted by the delicious aroma of Jeremy’s savory specialties like the Andouille sausage crusted pork chops or Megan’s handcrafted carrot cake with candied walnuts. Gather around and experience the best of what the season has to offer.

Great food and fantastic service. Our waitress Jessie not only tolerated my father with humor and a smile but made the evening a great experience. Food is excellent, with different twists on favorites including the pork chop and pot roasted.

I visited here during Restaurant Week. The fixed lunch menu had some really good selections. It was hard to choose, but I ended up with the sweet potato bowl. OH. MY. GOD. It was delicious. I don't usually eat out too often, but I will be back for lunch again.

Food and service was amazing. Our server, DeMarco, was friendly, helpful and attentive. He recommended the Brie platter and the BLT mac and cheese - both of which were delicious. Can't wait to make it back for brunch!

I don't normally leave one star reviews, but this was the perfect blend of bad. Like, it takes effort to be this bad. We came in for Sunday brunch. While we were seated right away, we didn't see a waiter until around 15-20 minutes. The coffee we ordered was burned and tasted off. We ordered the potato pancakes, which were fried in bacon grease and were burnt. Our server kept neglecting to check on our table, but had to come back 3 times to verify our order. They were out of granola, which is what my girlfriend first ordered, so she ordered a fruit waffle instead. The fruit waffle was not what you'd expect. I think it was the garnish from the previous night's pork chops. It was diced apples with onions, sauted in vinegar. On a fruit waffle. Weird/gross/probably not right. We mentioned this to the waitress, who immediately took a bad attitude about it. She brought out fruit and yogurt as an apology...With a dirty spoon. The yogurt also had a chunk of waffle in it (I think). We didn't finish it. The waitress continues to be rude at every pass until we left, even when we were cashing out. In summary, this place is gross. They don't wash their dishes. They don't know how to make the items on their menu. They don't treat customers promptly or with respect. Don't eat here.
