The Little Nature Museum

About

Appreciation of nature and natural history.

Story

Our mission is to develop awareness and appreciation of the natural world and the environment through hands-on collections, trails, and educational programs. The Little Nature Museum was the vision of its founder, Sandra Waddell Martin, when she was 13, who in 1955 opened the museum at her home in Winthrop, MA. The Museum has moved several times. For 62 years the museum has offered (1) guided trail walks and outdoor activities for children and adults; (2) public environmental programs in winter/spring with expert speakers; (3) an annual collaborative event, "Harvest Moon and NatureFest" co-hosted by The Little Nature Museum and the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum featuring outdoor live animal educational presentations, walks, & special activities; (4) a wide variety of interactive and hands-on exhibits, collections; (5) badge work assistance for youth groups and Scouts; (6) outdoor skills workshops; (7) community service and volunteer opportunities for high school and college students and adults; (8) and outreach programs . The Museum is currently located in a barn across from the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum in Warner, NH. In 2017 the name of the museum was changed to Nature Discovery Center.
