Free public programs on wildlife, fishing, kayaking and a wide range of outdoor activities. For all ages.
Free hands-on exhibits, a 4,600 gallon freshwater aquarium and over 1.5 miles of nature trails.

Mission

The Outdoor Campus' mission is to provide education about outdoor skills, wildlife, conservation and management practices of South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks to all ages in order to preserve our outdoor heritage.

Products

FREE classes on hunting, fishing, outdoor education, and outdoor skills (such as kayaking, camping, etc.). Classes are offered for those age 3 and up.

This is a beautiful place to escape without leaving town. There's a ton of beautiful mature trees that surround you away from hustle and bustle of Rapid City. Perfect for photography or picnics.

Lots of programs for all ages. Excellent taxidermy. Super helpful staff. Great place to go learn what it was like b4 the phone screen epidemic. Basic human survival. Something that is missing in today's world.

Learning while exercising 😁 had a great lil expedition at the Outdoor campus west. Loved it! Plan to return during regular season to take part in the awesome activities they do here.

This is a ridiculously biased review. If someone who loves hunting and taxidermied animals wrote it, it would be far different. I'm not a native South Dakotan, and my idea of honoring nature isn't killing it and eating it or artificially preserving and displaying it. Wow. The OCW teaches a love of nature through, in part, shooting it with bows and arrows. That still stuns me. And I want to weep at all the dead animals on display there. 
In all fairness, though, the space (minus the glassy-eyed, taxidermied wildlife) is beautiful and they do more than highlight the many ways of eating nature. The interactive educational and video information is fascinating, and the staff is always kind.
If I weren't creeped out by the grisly reproductions of living scenes through the posing of animal corpses, it would be a fascinating experience.
