My friend and I were at the resort for Kate McDermott's art of the pie. It was wonderful and Paws Up has thought of everything. Upon checking in, we didn't drive at all as they have a car service available to deliver you anywhere on the ranch. The food was marvelous. Would recommend it highly!

Place should be called “Hold Up”; It is way overpriced and certainly over rated for what it was. Be careful, here folks. The prices they post online are about 60% of what you’ll end up paying. There’s taxes, of course, then a 20% “guest services” fee or a “resort fee”—they tell you on the phone that the 20% mandatory up-charge is for tips. But wait, there’s more. If you want to take an hour horseback ride, that’ll be $200. ATV ride? Bend over buddy: that’s another $350 or so. Wine at lunch? $22 bucks/glass. Wanna shoot a .22 cal rifle? That’ll be another $150 partner. The staff is young, attentive, and very well-intentioned, but not well trained. The college kids are running the place and the owners are counting their money. Our walking guide got lost on the trails and a raft guide (who’d started the week prior) flipped the raft and put both guests’ lives in danger. It was touch and go there for a few minutes, but they both made it to shore. The river “guide” stayed with the boat, and then flipped it again. Rescue came in the form of his more experienced boss who had the sense to take the three kids under 10 in his boat. The two raft flotilla suffered no fatalities. Had that more experienced guide not taken those small kids in his raft, there was a high level of certainty the kids wouldn’t have left the river breathing. The raft guide was scared silly and his first stop once ashore was to a laundromat to rinse his shorts. Want the Montana glamping experience? Set up a tent in your living room and order out. Seriously, keep your money in your pocket. But you want to know something? Regardless of cost, the place is booked solid all summer. Good luck to all future Hold Up guests. I’ll not darken their door again. Seriously, $16 THOUSAND dollars for a tent in the woods with a busted hammock dangling outside and these folks have the balls to charge $22 for a glass of wine at lunch? Money 101: Just cuz you’re wealthy doesn’t mean you should waste it on a place like this. Paws Up? Screw that. Go Wheels Up somewhere else.

Incredible experience for Xmas. Every detail is thought of. Was very cool for our family to be personally welcomed back by the staff.

Hands down, the best experience I have ever had for a vacation. Customer service was top notch, food was beyond tasty, accommodations were fantastic and the activities were a blast! Cannot wait to go back!! Management was so friendly and hands on, which I love! Thank you Paws Up for an amazing time and I hope to see you again soon!

Not worth the money Resume: Despite a wonderful setting we wouldn’t go back to Paws Up. Rates and fees are extremly high, but compared to other luxery resorts not justified. You don’t get what you pay for. And an unresolved and unpleasant problem is the gratuity topic. First, the positive: The place, the accommodation and the whole environment is very unique and beautiful. Staffers are exceptionally friendly and keen to give you a pleasant stay. The food is of good quality and the activities versatile (although over-priced). But: Unfortunately, as a guest you are in the middle of an unresolved problem regarding gratuities. This negatively impacts the experience one has at the resort. Here are the facts: On top of the nightly rate (in our case $2000 for a Meadow Home, including food and beverage) a resort fee of 20% is applied to all fees for lodging, food and beverage charges (in our case $400 per day). When asking management about the tipping policy we were told that staff gratuities are much appreciated, but never expected. When asking the staffers, they say they expect gratuities... It is unclear how much staffers receive of that 20% resort fee, if anything. The best example for this confusion is the check you get after each meal. On the check there are three suggestions for gratuities (16%, 18% and 20%) based on a assumed amount for food and beverages (e.g. 3-course dinner $305 for two adults and an 8 year-old plus $60 for beverages -> see photo). If you order something that is not covered by the drinks or meal plan, like a bottle of wine, you will be charged 20% resort fee plus the suggested 16/18/20% gratuities. During our stay we had several conversations about that issue with staffers, the management and other guests (which shouldn’t be the case during a suposedly relaxing stay at a costly resort). This issue is a sad fact and could easily be resolved. We hope the management will follow through on their promise to review their tipping policy and change their approach.
