The experience, service, appetizers and atmosphere was great, I simply did not enjoy what I decided to order as my main course. I tried the Best Lobster Roll, while this roll was beautifully displayed on the plate, looks were very deceiving here! The claw meat was chewy and tough, the lemon sauce could have been a nice flavor addition but it was lost in the excessive butter. The bun wasn’t soggy, but I do think it was overfilled with lobster and made the roll difficult to bite. Many people enjoyed this roll, I saw them, but for me this was a no. This roll is expensive, $38.50. Some might disagree with me and that is fine, I am a foodie, so I will pay for food, but this was essentially a bad sandwich full of rubbery lobster meat, hidden beneath butter. I have had lobster rolls much cheaper that were more of a lobster salad roll and were outstanding, I support my statement about the cost! I did not finish this meal, I wasn’t upset, we all have a meal we don’t enjoy, thankfully my appetizers were fabulous! The Hummus had a different twist with Cumin, tomato relish, marinated olives, crispy chickpeas, rosemary oil served with garlic sourdough finished with sumac. I loved this, and the portion size could be a full meal if you are vegetarian or vegan and don’t see anything else on the menu that tempts your tongue! The Deviled Eggs are topped with cornmeal crusted oysters, smoky chipotle mayo, and chives! These are fancy, I am sure southern grandmothers and aunties will side eye you at the summer cookout for challenging the traditional, but this is a must if you are a deviled egg connoisseur. My cousin ordered the sage fried chicken and waffles, the presentation was perfect and she enjoyed every bite, next visit, that is what I will order. Even if you aren't a lover of Oysters, isn’t this bar just the cutest! Check out the different types of oysters and their flavor profile, I never knew there was much of a difference, now I will need to pay close attention to the taste the next time I indulge in a half dozen raw. Despite the disappointment of the lobster roll, I would definitely dine here again, I had a great time, and everything else I ate was fantastic. Enjoy Unnerved Traveler Parking: This is a large shopping area, free parking is available in abundance.
This would be my 2nd time at this establishment and the service has always been good. Food: I had the seafood linguini but it wasn’t the best. The shrimp was salty so I did not quite enjoy the meal. My friend had chicken and waffles and it was a lot of chicken! The cocktail was my favorite item from the menu outside of their house made cornbread which was delicious. Atmosphere: Ambience is really nice and being that we went in for lunch on a weekend, the restaurant was surprisingly almost empty. Service: no complaints about the service. Food and drinks came out in a timely manner and our waiter Sylvan always checked in on us. Conclusion: pretty decent spot for the price. Would love to come back sometime. Parking: Restaurant is located in a mall so ample parking.
Sat at the bar with my buddy on a slow Wednesday night, and the staff seemed more interested in closing versus selling food. The food was good, Chips & Fish was good, but the portion seemed off for $25. The wings looked great, and the chicken was juicy and tender. Chipotle sauce was just okay. The biggest downfall is that no flatware or napkins were given. When asked, we were handed a bunch of cocktail napkins.
Chill atmosphere. We sat outside which seems like it wouldn’t be that nice since it overlooks the parking lot but there was a nice breeze and good people watching. The place was crowded, so reservations are recommended. The lobster rolls were good for the area, but not amazing. The asparagus was one of the tastiest dishes. Not pictured: Brussel sprouts good but boring and hush puppies incredible. The key lime pie was amazing. I have no clue if it was authentic as this was the first time I’ve had it, but it was delicious. Note: the menu specifies which items are vegetarian, but according to the waiter those are actually the vegan items and more options were vegetarian.
Nice atmosphere sitting in the late afternoon in the outside space which overlooks the parking lot of the Columbia mall. Service was just horrible this time not really sure why because they weren’t busy at all. Problem was the server was just disappear for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. When I went to the restroom, I actually found her talking to a colleague at the bar. Even when I asked for the check, took her another 10 minutes. We got the oysters, Rockefeller - 4 oysters for $18, calamari for $16, and the fra Diavolo pasta with seafood- overall good food. Tasty and well made. Small portions- 4 oysters for $18, smaller calamari. Love their cornbread. Overall, service spoiled a good meal. Not a very good value for the money in my opinion.
My friend and I sat at the bar even though we had a table reserved; there was plenty of space when we got there on a Friday night around 7 pm. Food was exceptional and the service was great, our glasses were never empty. Inside decor is slightly industrial but felt hip and modern. We enjoyed our meal before heading over to a show at merriweather.
The aptly named Sweet Jesus oyster is a phenomenal way to start your meal at the Walrus. Order your oysters individually mix it up or treat yourself to one of the regional dozen or chef's choice platters... the staff Sylvin was phenomenal will walk you through the plethora of options. Don't forget the delicious mains... we dined for brunch, and loved the crab omelet plate and the ribeye and eggs. Cheers!
Dined in with the family at noon on a Sunday. We were given brunch menus but asked for the regular lunch/dinner menus as well...there's a lot of overlap between the two menus but some things like wings are missing from the brunch menu. The cornbread that is brought out to the table is awesome! It was a battle to not eat too much of it prior to the other food. Unlike most other crab dips that restaurants make, this one was loaded with big lump pieces. I also enjoyed the wings. Service was prompt and frequent, and the manager was visible and available to ensure everything was great. Kid-friendliness: The kids menu has plenty of good options, and it comes with crayons and activities to keep little ones occupied while waiting for the food.
My husband and I went here for lunch today. Let me just say the Lobster Roll is amazing!!!! The amount of lobster, the freshness of the bread and the butter and seasoning were on point. Our server Angela made the whole experience even better. She did a great job recommending appetizers and desserts. Very knowledgeable on the menu. We will return for sure!! Wish I had taken a photo of the Lobster roll, but it probably wouldn’t have done it any justice. You have to go see and taste it for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
Update May 2023 love this place always a good vibe love the deviled eggs and the mussels also good wings. But..... I finally tried the infamous lobster roll as well I brought a friend and we were both disappointed. It was not worth $38.50 I was expecting lobster meat from the tail for that price. The whole thing was claw meat and rather chewy. I cannot rave about the lobster roll I am a lobster lover and expected tender lobster chunks warm and buttery and that was not the case......... Maybe that's how it usually is but not today. We were there on a Friday at 2:30pm....... Complimentary corn bread is unbelievable you must get it. Server was awesome very attentive she was so nice. I got the appetizer mussels they were so flavorful buttery lemon basil sauce.Strawberry salad was hearty and the little fried goat cheese patty on top was delicious. The crab dip was excellent margaritas were great. Service was fast everyone was very pleasant
