About

Open 7-days a week for lunch and dinner, The Walrus is located at National Harbor just outside of Washington DC.

Story

Located in scenic National Harbor, Maryland, The Walrus boasts a made from scratch seafood menu and serves the largest selection (15) of freshly shucked oysters in the area. We also serve 14 local craft beers, tap wines and seasonal sipps, all at moderate prices and in a casual setting. Our guests enjoy spectacular views of the Potomac River and Old Town Alexandria and a close proximity to the MGM Grand Casino.

The name, The Walrus Oyster & Ale House, is inspired by the Lewis Carroll poem The Walrus and The Carpenter.

"O, Oysters, said the Carpenter,
You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?
But answer came there none
And this was scarcely odd, because
They'd eaten every one."
- Lewis Carroll

I loved this place. The food was good but service was fantastic! We rarely go out anymore because we have a toddler. Before we even asked, they brought a free toddler plate (grapes, cheese and bread) and it kept him happy. Would highly recommend for families. Our server was great.

I love this place specifically for their oysters. The selection of oysters they have is amazing, and I have frequently enjoyed tasting the differences between oysters from various parts of the Chesapeake bay area. Their seafood selection is also good, and all of the dishes we have tried are savory and we would do again. Overall a nice casual atmosphere and good food selection.

To start, the atmosphere is awesome! Very laid back, chill place. Our server Micah was great! Attentive, and friendly he was always checking on our table to refill water or see if we needed anything. When I went to order oysters he had great suggestions! The food is out of this world! The crab and lobster sandwich was to die for and I would absolutely get it again. You can't go to an oyster house without getting oysters! They were so fresh and big I couldn't get enough. We will definitely come back because it was such a pleasant experience!

My experience here was not a good one. The first indication that thing's weren't going to go well was the fact that we weren't greeted at our table for close to five minutes. The food was awesome, and it came out fast. However, the server seemed very rushed, I wasn't even finished ordering when she started to walk away. Once she took our order we only seen her again when she brought us our drinks. We were ready to spend so much more. Once we were done eating our meal we waited about another 10 minutes for her to return, we were going to order more from the menu and more drinks. At this point I was trying hard not to get upset. I finally decided that we were just going to leave. We waited another couple minutes to see if she came to offered us our check and or dessert. We finally had to get a manager to bring us our check. When the server realized that we were talking to the manager she came up and asked what was wrong. She then proceeded to tell us that she had eight tables.

The decor and atmospere is great. I generally like everything in National Harbor. The staff was friendly. The beer i had was very good. I got the oyster basket. About 8-10 breaded fresh oysters with fries and dipping sauce. The oysters were great and so was the dipping sauce. There was only a dollop of it though...needed 3x as much. The fries were plain jane with a similarly small dollop of ketchup. The real downside is the price. $18 for the oysters. As good as they were i will never order them again. I thought it would be a huge basket with some i could take home. As it is i might stop somewhere to get dinner since i already had my appetizer.
