Some people love this place but I just don't see it. The food is very average. The prices are above normal for a non-chain Mexican restaurant. $6.95 for a chili relleno ala carte for instance. The 2012 award-winning green chili was average as well. We really don't live that close to here and we probably passed 10 Mexican restaurants I'd rather go to so it's definitely not a destination restaurant and we won't be going back.

Giving 2 stars (instead of 1) because the food is actually amazing.  But that's about the only thing good...the prices are high for Mexican food ($80 for 4 adults, no appetizers, no alcohol or drinks, that doesn't include tip either), the dining area is very dark, the service is extremely slow and so is the kitchen.  Our total time spent there for dinner was 1:40 min on a Sunday evening. We were sat right away, greeted with chips and salsa, then sat there for nearly 30 min before waving someone down just to order. It took another 30 min for our food to start coming out, another 10 min for our server to come back with the rest of our food and another 10 min to pay. We only spent 20 min eating out of the 100 min we were there! There are so many other Mexican restaurants in Denver to go to that are better than Tia Maria's.

I've been coming here for years and the food has always been authentically A1 good. This time it wasn't. Our party of 8 felt the same. The food wasnt good, the staff wasn't attentive to customer service & all in all it has changed especially the food sadly. They are also too over priced. I don't like talking bad but the truth is that the food is not like it used to be.

Authentic Mexican reataurant.  Good selection.  A little on the pricey end.  Bathrooms need to be cleaner.
