Nancy from Top Tier made us a beautiful purple geode cake with handmade dogwood flowers!  Absolutely stunning  work!  And to top it off it was carrot cake, my favorite!

We hoped to hire Nancy to design and make our wedding cake for us. She required a $200 retainer to hold the wedding date before we even got to her bakery to do the cake testing. We drove 9 hours from our home in WI, where she had pulled out a frozen cake from months prior for us to test. She warned us it would be old, but never offered to make us fresh cake to test. The cake was not awful, but not what you would expect your wedding cake to taste like. We designed the cake that day with Nancy and she said that she would email the quote. When it came the quote was over $1700, for the cake! Now, I had never purchased a wedding cake, but I did not budget for that price. I asked her how to bring it down to our budget, as I could not spend $1700 on a cake to feed 200 guests and she gave us little to work with. I decided to go with a different baker at that point. When I asked for the $200 retainer to hold the date back from Nancy, she refused. I then asked her to bake cupcakes for my wedding shower with the $200 she had and she never replied to me. Needless to say, the experience was awful and unprofessional. I would never use her services.

Working with Nancy was absolutely amazing! My previous plan for our wedding cake fell through, so with only about eight weeks before the wedding, I was freaking out about finding someone to do our cake. I emailed Nancy an inquiry and she responded within 5 minutes! We set up a tasting for that same day, and I was blown away by her presentation of the cake (with antique dishware) and by the taste of the cake! I am pretty picky about frosting and fondont (I hate the chemically-tasting store-bought stuff), and Nancy's frosting and fondont was the best I ever tasted! After seeing the limited design cabalities of other local bakers, I was leary of trusting that any bakers could make the beautiful cakes that you see on Pinterest, so I was planning on going with a very simple design. After seeing the cakes that Nancy had in her bakery and pictures of other cakes that she has made in her portfolios (which were stunning!), I was convinced that I could trust her to make a more complicated design. We ended up designing the whole cake, she gave me an estimated quote, which I thought was reasonable for how great the cake was and for a design that I'm sure most bakers wouldn't be able to pull off, and we decided to book! I went from being super stressed out about our cake to being so incredbily excited that we would have an amazing cake at our wedding--in one day! The cake was everything we hoped it would be, and nearly all of it was gone by the end of the night, with many guests, including myself, getting seconds. I was very happy that there was at least a little bit leftover though, because my husband and I got to enjoy it the next day. My husband and I have already resolved to go back to Nancy if we ever need a cake for another event!
