Story

Torchy's Tacos started in 2006 with a mobile trailer, a little red Vespa, and a man with a passion for good food. The founder, Mike Rypka, left an executive chef position to chase his dreams by investing everything he had into Torchy's Tacos. With a new, experimental menu ready to serve but no mouths to feed, Rypka jumped on his Vespa and started throwing out samples in an attempt to draw customers to his trailer. Before he knew it, people were rallying beside the taco stand hollering, "damn these tacos are good!" and the Torchy's Tacos' legacy began.

We recently moved to Leander, and one of our new neighbors recommended two restaurants: Blue Corn Harvest and Torchy's. Blue Corn was awesome, and I mean awesome! So we were eager to try out Torchy's, which she said had "some of the best tacos in the world." Our experience wasn't good. The place had a fast food restaurant vibe despite the bar wedged in next to the cashier. The tall bartender guy was nice to us, and got a table cleaned off for us, but the cashier was lukewarm ... much like our food. Which is weird since we waited more than half an hour for it. You'd think it was being made fresh if it took that long. The lady bringing food out to the tables looked at our table repeatedly as she passed, but didn't check up on us at all. I think the bartender dude might be the only reason we ever got food, which might have just been sitting there in the back. And it just didn't taste that good. My Democrat and Pork taco were soggy and just tasted okay. My wife's tortillas were cold. Very cold. The only part of our order that was really good was my wife's frozen margarita. My recommendation ... find another place to eat. Maybe it was just a bad day for this place, but we won't ever know because there are too many awesome places in the Austin area that we'll be going to instead.

The food is good, but the service here is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. COUNTLESS times I have been put on hold for over 10 minutes because the employees have forgotten they put someone on hold. I then decided to start ordering online instead to avoid the entire phone process. Today, when I picked up my food, which was ordered online, I scheduled to pick it up at 7:50pm. I arrived at 7:35pm, which I understand is early...but then I didn't receive my food until 8:05pm!!!!! THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE. STOP BRINGING FOOD OUT TO TABLES WHEN THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT ARE WAITING FOR A "TO GO" ORDER. THAT IS A SIGN OF POOR MANAGEMENT. I would've stayed to speak with a manager, but I was already late for the next place I had to be at because my food took so long to come out. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT THIS BUSINESS STAYS AFLOAT STRICTLY BECAUSE THEY HAVE GOOD TACOS/QUESO AND THEY KNOW THE BUSINESS WILL CONTINUE EVEN IF THE SERVICE IS AWFUL. DO BETTER. BE BETTER. STOP SUCKING AT YOUR JOB.

Love the tacos and the beer here at Torchy's. Their biggest issue is sometimes, more often than i would like to say even, they get so backed up in the kitchen that it can take a a while to get some tacos (even after having ordered). I recently waited for 30 minutes for 5 tacos.

Great selection of really unique tacos. Efficient ordering system. Wait times for food can get a little long when they are busy.

I love the tacos but their staff is lacking. They are likely to ignore you or not pay attention for quite some time after you are standing there when you are picking up a togo order and when seated they may not pay much attention or bring more chips when you order queso and chips. They make a great shrimp taco so I continue to order.
