Switzerland is beautiful! We spent 1 night in Zurich and 3 nights in Lucerne before embarkation in Basel. Purchasing the pre-cruise tour allowed 28 of us to make friends and bond before joining 40 other people in our group from Chateau Montelena. Zurich is beautiful. It’s also very expensive. Expanding Horizons use a lovely boutique hotel called The Zurcherhof with a superb location, right next to Zurich’s Old Town. Turn right out the front door and walk 50 yards to Niederdorfstrasse, the main pedestrian street in Old Town, full of shops and restaurants. We really enjoyed guided walking tours of both Zurich and Lucerne. It was nice to have 3 nights in Lucerne with time to explore and relax. After our walking tour of Lucerne we had a marvelous afternoon in the Swiss Alps. We cruised on Lake Lucerne for an hour, before taking a classic cog-wheeled rail car up Mount Rigi. After a short train ride up the mountain we punched through the clouds and WOW! We had a breathtaking view I cannot even explain. We were on top of the world! Onboard ship eat drink and be merry! Strasbourg was a surprise favorite. Excellent sight-seeing, picture taking and shopping. Plenty of cafes for food and drink and delicious Alsatian wines. The remaining ports are full of culture. Rudesheim was fun. We rode bicycles through the vineyards. Between Koblenz and Cologne we sailed down the magnificent Rhine Gorge beneath 41 castles that are fabulous. The best is yet to come – Amsterdam! What a great day this is! I enjoyed every minute here. One of the best vacations EVER! - Wendy Spates Huntington Beach, CA review from website
