About

Boston's last independent general bookstore, Trident Booksellers & Cafe is located on Newbury Street in historic Back Bay.

Story

Trident Booksellers and Cafe opened in 1984 and since then has expanded from a small bookstore cafe to a full-service restaurant and two floors of books. Located on Newbury Street in historic Back Bay, Trident is the last general independent bookstore in Boston. Menu favorites are the lemon ricotta French toast, vegan cashew chili, and deluxe grilled cheese. We also have a large selection of MEM teas and a full fresh juice menu. Author talks, cooking demos, and other events are held in the upstairs cafe.

This is one of the coolest bookstores in Boston. There’s a really wide-selection with a ton of witty staff recommendations. The readings and events they hold frequently are topical and cool. Just don’t expect to find too many bargain books - still, if you’re willing to pay Barnes and Noble prices go to a bookstore like Trident.

Trident is incredible as both a bookstore and a restaurant. Trident carries a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction - some of it mainstream, but there's also a number of small press items. I've found a few cool obscure horror novels here, and the staff have lent me some great recommendations as well. And regarding food, well, it's off the hook. There's a selection of dishes from pub grub to the artisanal, and breakfast is served all day. The lemon ricotta French toast is particularly decadent. Highly recommended for locals and visitors to Boston!

This is one of my favorite study spots. They have a ton of caffeine options and if you stay long enough they also have plenty of beer options. It has two levels but it does tend to be really busy so get there early! Also, plan to get food because it is delicious!

I love supporting small businesses especially this one because the place has a great selection of books for adults and children as well as cards and gifts. the food is pretty good. they have nice selection of drinks for coffee lovers or tea lovers. I think they even have beer. the wait staff is nice. never any issues just finding a seat at the counter. perfect place to meet and friend or hang out alone.

Decent but not outstanding food and drinks. I just love the bookstore vibe. You can get some work done here for sure. They open till midnight so that definitely sets them apart!
