In the massive Topanga State Park the ranch building has a nature center which is staffed on some weekend days. Along the trails you can see early water collection systems when this was a cattle ranch. i always see deer when I am there in the morning. Parking is $10, but you may find parking on the street outside the park. If you are really ambitious you can hike from here to Will Rodgers State Park.

Trippet Ranch is a mid-ride stop for me when I mountain bike in the SM mountains. It is a very welcome oasis especially during the hot summer months. I start at the Marvin Braude entrance at the top of Reseda Bl, ride out past Trippet to Parker Mesa and drop down the hill to Trippet on my way back to rinse off the dust and sweat and re-fill my water bottles for the slog back up the hill past Eagle Rock. Full bathrooms, 3 water fountains and cool shade make it a mandatory stop. There is paid parking here for those who use this as their launching point, enter via Entrada off of Topanga Bl just up from the intersection with Old Topanga (Inn of the 7th Ray). Plenty of picnic tables in cool shaded areas, though of course, no open flame is allowed so no BBQ. Speaking of the aforementioned Parker Mesa, it is hands down, one of the most beautiful vistas in the entire area with sweeping panoramic views of the ocean. It's a bluff on a small peak above the Palisades with a couple of benches facing the ocean to chill and ponder life. On a clear day you can see LA from the downtown sky scrapers, Century city and the westside beach communities south to PV, then to the north west up to the northern end of Malibu, from the bluff above the ocean. It's a 3 mile, moderately difficult hike/ run/ mountain bike ride up from Trippet, 3 miles back. What a great day- bring a picnic in a cooler in the car, hike out to Parker Mesa and back, then wash up and enjoy your picnic as you cool down at Trippet. Just please, pack your trash out, keep it clean and no dogs allowed!!!

I love this place. It is amazing how big the Park is, and the beauty of environment is amazing. It is hard to believe you are still in Los Angeles.

Very cool, easy hiking area. We saw three deer just off an easy to access path. The only real problem with the place is it's very far off any main roads and takes a while to get there. It's also what makes it remote and great.
