Story

The Mark G. Etess Arena (also known as The Arena at Trump Taj Mahal) was a multi-purpose arena in Atlantic City, New Jersey, United States. Opening in April 1990, as a part of the Trump Taj Mahal, the arena seats nearly 6,000 for music and sporting events. The arena was named after Mark Grossinger Etess, a former president and COO of Trump Plaza. Etess died in a helicopter crash in October 1989.Despite the Indian theme of the Trump Taj Mahal, the Etess Arena is contemporary, based upon the club scene in England. The venue's first concert performance was by Elton John on May 18, 1990. Donald Trump was originally in negotiations to have Madonna open the venue during her Blond Ambition World Tour but plans fell through. Her first concert in Atlantic City came 16 years later with her Confessions Tour, which was held in the Boardwalk Hall arena.

Update: As of 2016, Permanently Closed. I can only comment on the casino and public areas, not the hotel. Basically what I saw was an opulent place in need of repairs and remodeling. The cleanliness and food/beverage service is usually OK, but has not been great since the labor strike. (Trump's buddy Carl Icahn somehow managed to break the contract and take away the employees' health insurance retirement benefits.) That said, I suspect some disgruntled employees have tried to falsely report here that the place is permanently closed. Not so fast: They have been given notice that the closing date is October 10, 2016. But I think a last-minute deal is still possible. Things will continue as is until after Labor (how ironic) Day weekend before things may start winding down. There are a lot of nice businesses as tenants in there, so let's cross our fingers and hope the Taj continues.

Never stayed here. We visited on a trip and did some gambling. The gambling areas were full of people having fun.. and we ourselves enjoyed playing. Was a nice building... too bad it's closed.

From New York, we visited Atlanta City in June 2013 for a day visit in a bus which took us to Taj Mahal through a number of casinos. People cone to Atlanta City mainly for casinos. We did not stay in hotel. Bus operator had given some coins complimentary. Find the casinos around very big with lot of people enjoying. One can see both man and women of 75+ enjoying. Children are not allowed in side. Lot of food options available. One day was enough to move around. We returned in the evening. When in NY/NJ, one must find time to visit Atlanta City. Do not be confused with Atlanta, Georgia.
