I LOVE this place! It was a pleasant surprise when we stumbled upon this gem. Super cool environment, especially since its "Underground"! So hospitable and a relaxed atmosphere (contrary to the nearby hustle and bustle of Memphis). Oh, and the food is spot on! The food was actually warm (unlike the last few places we've eaten)! Best mac & cheese this side of the Mississippi! Service is spot on and fast...my drink never went empty. Very accommodating and polite. Thank you for the hot plate and for being nice to us!

I work part-time at the The Underground Cafe, the place needs to expand. Food and service here is excellent. With full occupancy, it reaches 75. I would really appreciate it, if unfit to see the place grow. With a half acre lot beside it,room for growth is a must. Hopefully, the cafe will soon enlarge to a huge dinning experience.

I had the Cajun chicken with cheese grits that was top notch for a Cafe. Prices a little high but the taste if the dish was worth it. Nice minimalist decor and friendly staff. Took a sec to find the entrance, its down in the basement, hence the name. Nice place!

Shrimp and grits and the banana Foster are amazing. Full of flavor. You will not be disappointed!

We heard about this place when we were doing a tour around Hernando and Southaven, and we figured we would give it a try. We weren't sure of the atmosphere so we dressed in some nice clothes and prepared for a fun night. Unfortunately, this was a huge mistake. From the moment we stepped into the building we noticed that the air was incredibly thick on the inside of the restaurant. There was little to no ventilation in the entire building, so the entire restaurant was filled with a thick cloud of smoke that burned your eyes and made it difficult to breathe. Not only that by the time you do leave the restaurant it's like you've been working as a fry cook for a full shift, your clothes absolutely stink. We had to throw everything into the wash once again as soon as we go home. One would think that the food would make up for the lack of airflow in the restaurant, but it's pretty mediocre. Sweet potato fries tasted like frozen ones that you could heat up in a microwave. The servers are nice but for how slow the restaurant was there was no excuse for the lack of service we had. We asked for boxes and we waited a full ten minutes while the server instead checked out other individuals at the counter when more than half the restaurant was empty. Maybe the food's better if you get it to go, but I can't recommend going to this restaurant until they fix their ventilation problem because it completely ruins the experience.
