When our 9 yr old Doberman "Charlie" got GDV unexpectedly over night it became a medical emergency. We took him to our primary vet and he said it was serious and recommended VCA Arboretum Hospital. He called ahead and when arrived they immediately took Charlie under their care. Yes it was costly, but the attention to detail and care he received before, during, and after his operation was quite exceptional, and personal to the staff there, it was money well spent on Charlie who has proved be part of our family as much as any sibling we could have. They not only called every couple hours after surgery to let us know of his progress, but even days afterwards to make sure he was doing well and asked repeatedly if we had any questions. If you care for your pet as we do there would be no other place I would recommend better. Thank You again to the staff. Charlie is back to being Charlie again.

I went in today for a check up on my Pug to make sure he was okay since his breathing was a bit weird. They told me he was fine and that nothing was wrong, yet they charged me 143$ just for a basic check up? Seems a bit ridiculous to charge that much. The people were nice but I don't think 143$ for a basic check up is fair or reasonable at all. I don't think I'll be going back there again.

I'm giving the stars for the vet tech. (She and the front desk were the only ones who made our experience pleasant there). I was written a referral by my vet to see a specialist (a neurologist - Dr. Birkell) at VCA Downers Grove. It was an awful experience from the moment we met. My dog had lost the use of her front paw and we were there for a mri. Birkell came in the room and rushed myself & my dog thru her physical exam. I left my dog (only after being comforted by the tech) and paid the $3,000 for the mri performed there to be told that there was a tumor on the nerve sheath. I was also given a $7,000 estimate for an amputation if I chose to move forward. 
There was no way in hell that I would let the Drs at this place amputate my dogs leg after the way I saw the neurologist treat her & talk to me.   Fast forward 3 wks.... my vet writes a referral for my dog to see the vets at Purdue. A TEAM of vets cannot find the so called nerve sheath tumor Birkell saw & also said it would be unethical to amputate her leg. They found her to be totally healthy and sent her home recommending physical therapy. 
This place is a scam. Money hungry. Uses scare tactics to try and get the most money from pet lovers. SICK.

Stop at the door and turn around your are going to be robbed as soon as you walk through the door! My dog was sent to this place for "Ultrasound of Abdomen". "Was not Emergency". I brought X rays, lab work and notes from our Veterinarian. 
All they needed to do is ultrasound. Well, guess what, there is not a Tech there to do it. Someone is to call on monday to schedule a $605.00 Ultrasound!! Get real! Not to mention the charge for a "Specialist" to read and look at my dog for 2 minutes! The office charge, etc! One walks out paying over a $1000 and the pet is still not being treated. 
Vet looked at my dog, told me the X rays I had brought looked normal, but 2 other veterinarians said they were not normal?! That was the reason for ultrasound. 
Bottom line, walked out with nothing done and $192.00 charge!  Oh sorry, they did give me antibiotic! That is one expensive Medication! Could have went to my regular Vet for that!! Just crazy, how they prey on our heartstrings and charge such rediculous prices, because they know most will pay it! Shop around folks. There are much reasonable places around with much lower prices.

I paid $156 to have them tell me what was wrong with our dog, which was a closed pyrometra (puss filled uterus). They told us the dog need emergency surgery and the bill would be about $5,000. I ended up taking the dog to another vet that did the surgery at midnight for about 5% of that price. I think the way they conduct their business is kind of appalling to be  honest. We asked, if there was any kind of discount or payment plan, because 5k is a lot of money. The reply from the staff broke my heart. It wasn't that they couldn't do it, but all the horror stories from the staff explaining how inflexible this place is with their pricing. I almost paid the 5k, but a couple phone calls later and I had a vet willing to fix the dog for less than $300. I wonder how many dogs and cats have died, because this place wouldn't touch them without charging thousands of dollars. Shame on them for the price gouging....really.
