Very clean, very friendly. Lauren Schmidt helped us and was very warm, professional and knowledgable. She clearly cares a lot and it shows in the work. We had an inferior vet do the neuter for a shelter animal we adopted, and it was done poorly. She reconstructed the surgery and cleaned out the area, and even helped us coax the poor guy out into the car after her shift ended. It looks great and even the day after we could tell that the dog wasn't as bothered by the surgery as the first time.

VCA West LA is the only 24-hour emergency vet on the west side, and they fully take advantage of owners. They perform unnecessary tests and charge outrageous prices for routine procedures. Puncture wound ended up costing $4k from all of the crazy stuff they added on! If you can, definitely worth waiting to see your own veterinarian and make sure you review the charges before they see your dog!

First-class facility with amazing doctors and staff. I feel like I'm doing the best for my cats when I bring them here to Dr. Kaplan. They have experts in their field, including a board-certified radiologist who looks at each x-ray. It may cost more, but you get good answers the first time. The hours are great too, especially for someone who works a day job and needs evening appointments. The 24 hour emergency service here is also top notch.

While there are some very kind and understanding staff members here, I definitely feel like I was taken advantage of when my cat was ill. My cat had been dealing with unexplained weight loss, and VCA determined it was lymphoma. My cat was 17, and they made it seem like she could have the best quality of life with chemo plus steroids. Lymphoma, once diagnosed, gives the cat a lifespan of about 3 months if no treatment is given. Obviously I wanted what was best for my cat, and listened to the doctors. They estimated about $10,000 in vet bills over six months. However, between additional medications and unanticipated medical costs (they pushed doing ultrasounds continuously even though the results never brought back any news), I racked up about $7,000 in about 3 months. At first, treatment seemed to be working, but then my cat started having more incontinence issues and slowing down quite a bit. I worried that the many medications and weekly chemo was only causing more stress and when I brought these concerns up to the doctor, he seemed annoyed and said she may need to come in for a blood transfusion. And that the transfusion only makes them feel better for a few weeks before they need another. My cat could barely walk two feet and they wanted to put her through a transfusion?! At this point I felt like they were just keeping her barely alive to add up more fees, since I was so willing to pay for whatever would make her life easier. I started feeling like I couldn't trust this vet. Sadly, my cat passed away a few days after I last spoke to the VCA. Looking back, I realize it may have just been best to keep her on the strictly steroid option without chemo to make her days easier until she passed. But of course, the steroid-only option was the least expensive, and it's no wonder VCA was keen to push for more treatment. I'm honestly just disappointed, you want to trust your vet and by the end I dreaded coming to them with my concerns. Do yourself a favor and get a second opinion early on before settling here.

If I knew that these veterinarians were upselling their services, I would have completely avoided this place. The doctor completely disregarded my pet's diet and current health during his overpriced check-up, and instead persisted on conducting exams for my pet's infection that were, of course, overpriced. Gladly, I only wasted about $150 to these greedy vets and plan on spending my money on veterinarians who value animals over money.
