The shop was displaying a painting by Carlos Cadavid on sale for $3,000.00
on two separate occasions.
Both times they gave an elaborate story about it being an original oil worth $8-10K and about knowing the owner (who they said had worked for a high-end art shop) for many years and who was currently away in Europe.
On the second occasion, I asked them how I could tell that it was an original and not a Giclee.
The man, who appears to be store owner, was very insistent that it was an original pointing to the texture of the oil on the canvas, which is proof of nothing as Giclees are commonly overlaid with paint to provide texture.
I had them bring down the painting so that I could examine it and I quickly discovered that it was almost certainly a Giclee copy by examining the border of the image. 
The owner continued to argue with me until we discovered the second signature by the artist in the corner of the back of the canvas and the series number - proof positive that it was not an original.
I got the distinct impression that the owner knew all along that it was a copy and thought that he could trick us.
