After visiting East Los Angeles College in 1951, horror film star and noted art collector, Vincent Price, became aware of a very real need for students in this community to have the opportunity to experience original art works first-hand. He, in turn, donated several art works from his personal collection and established the first "teaching art collection" owned by a community college. Today the collection has grown to over 9,000 pieces from all over the world, spanning many different time periods, and by many well known artists.
Aside from the permanent collection, the gallery space hosts several exhibits that are free and open to the public, throughout the year. From solo to group exhibitions, collections on loan to student work, and events such as poetry readings and artist talks, the Vincent Price Art Museum is a venue to keep your eye on.
