As a United States Marine I experienced some horrible traumas while severing this great nation. For many years I have had to deal with the difficult memories without having the tools I needed to correctly understand them. The Military Program at Vista Del Mar has not only giving me those tools but also helped me to truly comprehended my trauma and how to work through it. The Military Program has the best of the best in PTSD therapy. I highly recommend their services to all military and non-military. Thank you to all the wonderful people at Vista Del Mar.

I am currently drafting a lawsuit to be filed tomorrow in Santa Barbara County Superior Court against this hospital for horrific treatment of my client - in particular the duress they placed her under when they threatened to certify her for a 5250 14-day hold with the violent patients if she did not agree to stay longer voluntarily, the fact that they did not give her the 5150 advisement when she was involuntarily admitted and that she was not given access to counsel, although, because I have known her husband for years, we attempted to gain access to her. I am uncertain about whether she received a proper evaluation upon arrival and I am deeply concerned about the original commitment decision that went against the findings of her treating physicians, her family and her. As I read through the comments from people who have been there or had loved ones there, I am shocked, saddened and horrified on all of your (and all of our) behalfs. A society is only as good as we treat those who need us to be compassionate and humane. The comments here, sadly, support my client's story completely.

I had a loved one taken there against her will, the staff was rude, they would mock her, call her names, and made fun of her. At the time I wasn't sure if I believed what she was saying but it's been a few years and she is now mentally doing amazing, and she still stands by how she told us the staff treated her. She cries about it because of how hurt she is that she can't believe a mental health facility can treat their patients that way. Sha said they tied her up and forced her to take medications that she had a bad reaction to when they first gave them to her at the same facility. Just a horrible place over all. Please if you truly care and love your family, don't send them there!

I have been a patient 3 different times at Vista del Mar in Ventura,CA. Dr. Ruths and the entire staff were always very helpful and kind to me. I've experienced severval depressive episodes since 2008 and this hospital assisted me more than 2 other hospitals I've been admitted to due to my depression and anxiety. My only suggestion would be to separate the military ptsd patients from the others. They have different rules and restrictions from other patients which I found confusing and annoying at times. Other than that I felt safe and well taken cared of by Dr.Ruths and staff

If you have any love for your friends and family who need help, do not, under any circumstances, send them to this pathetic excuse of a hospital. My friend Zoë found the time to write a rather long note, tie a sheet around her neck, and kill herself all while under "suicide watch". Kind of impressive that this place brought a whole new meaning to the term. Instead of watching over the suicidal person to keep them from committing the act, they basically watch them commit suicide. I would rather have been locked in a room with her myself for a month straight than have these people "watching" her. As I seek help for my own mental problems, I will be avoiding this place like Chernobyl. And to the employee who was supposed to be watching my friend: I hope you won your card game, c*nt.
