the youngest & smallest of the three classic buildings on Washington Common, it is now the headquarters of the Washington Police Department, but for more than 100 years this building served as the principal school house in Washington. There had been an earlier school house near this site, a small brick structure, but by the 1880s it was both worn out & too small. Eventually, it was decided to build a new school in the general style of the other town buildings, & place its facade flush with the Church. It proved to be a perfect solution, both for the needs of the school & the appearance of the town Common; from that year forward it served as the Center School, & the whole Common has been the pride of the town.

If you call after hours they will claim you are "impaired" so they won't have to do any work and respond. The chief who is about to retire apparently works on call and never left his house during his tenure with the department. Poor excuse for a police department call the sheriff instead.
