The selection is alright and prices are fairly high, but this is about the customer service. There is a cashier working there that needs to be fired quick, fast, and in a hurry. My first encounter with her was at the beginning of January. My pipes had frozen in my apartment so I had no water and on top of that I was sick. So I went to the western with my boyfriend to pick up large jugs of water. Mid transaction he ran back to grab some ginger ale as well. Somehow this messed her up so dramatically that she stated plainly, "Well, you just messed up my computer is what you did." I didn't mess up a thing; you're just incompetent. I was sick, cold, and without water so I was not here for it but I refrained from commenting further at her attitude and eye rolling. Today I had to run to the store for bread because the place where I work was out. Again, not in the mood for an attitude. This same cashier was walking slow as molasses in winter but was a good 8-10 feet away from me as I started backing up my car in the lot. She proceeded to walk right at my reversing car anyway and when she saw my windows down she proclaimed loudly "Damn, you see me walking here and you just gonna back up anyway?!" Excuse you, but if you saw me backing up and I had enough time to be nearly out of the spot, why the hell did you keep walking AT my car? I work in customer service. Many people do. I can tell you from being on both ends of the service industry that this individual has no business working as a cashier. I've no intention of returning to this location and neither does my boyfriend or any of the friends and family I'm spreading this information to. I tried calling to complain about this but was told the manager wasn't in. So then who was running the store? Lord only knows.

The. store reflects the neighborhood it's in. Everything on that side of town is pricey. None of the residents have had any problems with it ..many section 8 and others in Birmingham placement programs have been relocated to this location. Piggly Wiggly is just down the hill for those concerned with price .. Great Ppl & Staff. I love this store

It's most endearing quality is that it's open 24 hours.

The best thing about this grocery is that it's open 24 hours. Parking at any time of day is always a nightmare, and the prices gouge the dwellers of this inner city neighborhood, but it's been around for decades. It's something of an institution. It's convenient location & hours of operation, cleanliness, friendly staff, and fairly wide variety of staples (and even a few "exotic" products) make this a go-to destination. Sometimes they have fairly decent sales on meats. They also serve really good, fresh, pre-packaged sushi (half off on Wednesdays) prepared at a local location, which has been a delightful discovery.
