We're fairly seasoned campers, and I'd have to give this place 3 stars for a couple of reasons. Before I list those (at the bottom here), the space was well kept with a very nice family hosting the campground. It was nearby to Nevada City and a low key getaway. - Believe it was $20/night to camp - on the higher end considering the facilities are quite bare. - Do accept reservations (this time of year) - Easy to locate & well marked along the road; however we lost service about 10 mins before the site. - Clean bathrooms, but only toilets available. No mirrors, sinks or place to wash dishes. This was a bit of a challenge! - Small market roughly 5mins south with essentials. - Plenty of clean, flat space to set up a tent. - Lots of bees and squirrels - heads up. While we visited, there were no signs on the water spigots about the water being tainted (we saw folks getting water periodically). However, there was a sign at the entry board saying it was contaminated. MUST have signage at each water source.. Not great on the alert side. There was nowhere to wash dishes - with or without the water contamination. Also we were next to a few odd visitors, which is not the campsites fault, but worth noting. They were loud, yelling, dancing, and generally gave off a bad vibe. Overall though, a fine experience. We might come back but will check on the water status before we do.

It was nice to have a place to stay that night. The campground was extremely dusty. Every step you took a cloud of dust would raise up off the ground. Also the water was undrinkable due to bacteria in the water (They are currently trying to fix this) and squirrels in the area were infected with plague (I know the park does not have much control over this, but they needed more signage around so that people knew to keep their pets away from squirrels).

This campground is good for a one or two night stay. Flush toilets are a plus but the water was pouted when we stayed and unusable. Close to the Pioneer trail for easy hiking.
