I was a customer of White House of Music for many years, purchased from them:  a violin, a viola, a digital piano style keyboard, multiple sets of strings, two bows, cases, and a good selection of music, as well as paid for private lessons through them.

Their repair shop is the standard by which I compare others.  They encourage students, even with owned instruments to submit them for what I jokingly called an annual oil change, where they would inspect the instrument for signs of wear or damage.  They offer an affordable service plan to do that free once a year with discounts on repairs, which I used year after year.  I had bridges replaced, nuts shimmed, bow hair redone, strings that had wear I hadn't noticed replaced, even sound posts adjusted all through those regular visits.  On one occasion, while evaluating an instrument for purchase, I commented that it didn't sound right and the repair person in ten minutes took it back and determined the sound post needed adjustment, improving the quality of sound tremendously.

Their music selection is good for standard student repertoire, but anything unusual, you will need to order, which they will quite easily do.  

Their instrument selection is reasonable, with a wide range of instruments in violin, and a reasonable selection in violas.  Don't go there expecting $10k instruments.  They aren't a violin maker.

The downside is probably their teachers.  While most try hard, quality ranges widely.  We experienced several teachers who were only there for a few months as well as teachers we worked with for years at a time.  If you are just starting out, most of the teachers should be fine.

I know that they offer lessons and services for band instruments as well, but I did not participate in such.
