Dear William Penn Tavern, I just wanted to thank you for running an excellent establishment. I came for happy hour tonight, and had some Guinness and some onion rings. I absolutely love onion rings, and I was very happy with the sizable portion that you provided. The server was excellent, and always greeted us with a smile. I especially love that you have the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip still up. That’s one of my favorite comic strips and it’s a great addition to the restaurant. keep up the great work and I can’t wait to come back. Cheers.
The WPT has moved locations but their cheesesteaks haven’t changed. Soft hoagie roll isn’t my choice, but works well for this sub. A little extra pepper relish on the side for a little heat, but can’t forget a lite line of Heinz to top off this. I remember the wings being pretty tasty too.
Outstanding bar/tavern that was formerly located in Shadyside. Wings cannot be beat - get the “kitchen sink” version.
This place caught me off guard in a good way. Great atmosphere! Football fans talking back and forth ribbing each other in good nature. Great affordable food! I will definitely go back.Food: 5/5
The wings were out of this world. So crispy and the mild sauce and ranch were delicious. As a Philadelphia native the cheesesteak was excellent the roll, cheese and onions tasted phenomenal the steak was delicious but to me the only flaw was it was cut a tad to thick, if they could slice the steak a little bit more thin I would put that as the best cheesesteak in Pittsburgh hands down. Parking: Parking isn't the greatest but it's worth looking for parking to eat here.
A pretty small space with way too many people and not enough room to stand or get drinks. They gave my debit card to someone else at the end of the night and I had to cancel it and get a new one. Just not a great experience and will not go back or recommend to anyone else. Much better places in the area, but to each their own. Not my favorite. Long wait for drinks and hard to approach the bar because of the small size of the bar and the amount of people waiting to get drinks. If you want to stand around all day, this is the place for you.
I live in Lawrenceville. This is my go to spot when I have a taste for wings. I always get the "kitchen sink" wings. I've been getting those since they were located in Shadyside. I always call and place an order for pick up because I'm not really a fan of the new Lawrenceville location. The atmosphere is different. I liked the atmosphere in Shadyside better. It was more, let's just say DIVERSE.
Got the south jersey cheesesteak very delicious and fillingFood: 5/5
My first experience was great. I ordered 12 chicken wings and both flavors were tasty and cooked to correct temperature. The chef even went so far as to ask me about my experience to see if the wings were okay. My second time, was unfortunately, not so great. I ordered 6 wings, same flavor. The sauce was poorly made and unmixed, the chicken wings were undercooked, and one of the wings tasted freezer burned. I’m not sure if this is due to mishandling of the chicken wings. It’s a shame because the first time was a great experience. Hopefully they can get the kitchen staff on the page. For those reasons, I give a one star review. The one star goes to the first chef, and the bartender.
Love WPT, but overall I would say that it can be very hit or miss. When it hits, the food is great, affordable, and you'll have a great time. However, the food and service is inconsistent. Sometimes when you order wings, it is just cold wing sauce poured over the top of the wings, instead of tossed. If you order food to go, it can take up to an hour takes 30 minutes to cook and 30 minutes for the bartender to notice it is finished and to give it to you. The servers are friendly and nice, but can be a real long wait to get what you ordered.
