Moved to ws in 2017. I have had nothing but positive experiences with this police department. Before I make a long post. I just want to extend my sincere appreciation to officer dorn (dorm) that assisted me when I ran out of gas, and stayed with me until my help (the person bringing me gas) came. He was very nice, professional, and friendly. There was another officer that arrived after him, and took over when officer dorn (dorm) has to leave. Everyone can’t say that they’ve had good experiences with the police department, but I thank God that I can say that about ws police department. This is something I wasn’t used to on any level, and I’m from Statesville nc

I do time sensitive work that often requires me to come in on weekends. This particular Saturday all of the roads leading to my building were blocked off for a 5K with no posted detour or prior notice of road closure leading up to the event. After driving around aimlessly looking for a way to my building and now running late, I found a back road that didn't appear to be blocked off. I proceeded onto the street where my building and parking area are, having not been stopped by the police or event workers at the corner, and found myself behind a cop car that promptly stopped in the middle of the street. I tried to gesture that I needed to get to the parking lot to my left and pulled up next to her to explain. When she stepped out of the car to speak with me I was met with attitude and aggression. She accused me of being disrespectful and rude for "throwing my hands up" behind her and that I wasn't allowed on this road and someone should have stopped me at the corner. I explained I needed to get to work and there was no other way to get through yet she continued to tell me how rude I was. The conversation ended with her sarcastically telling me that I "had lipstick on my teeth - which is a great look for work." This was entirely unrelated to both my trouble trying to get to my job and my mistake of following her on to a temporarily closed road. It was uncalled for, petty, and extremely unprofessional. In the future, please leave the bullying back in grade school.

I am from Statesville NC. I have lived in Winston Salem twice. I feel I'm here to stay now. The WS police department have been a blessing to me on two occasions. And you just don't get that ACT OF KINDNESS in other cities. I can go on and on about the two experiences, but has time for that, let's just say that I appreciate this department, and can only hope you'll be an example to other police departments. Thank you for putting your life on the line for the community, and thank you for serving.

The WSPD is very professional, polite & quick to respond. I've had to call them out to my house late at night a couple times. Once because of a suspicious car parked in front of our house & and another because my dog was wildly & unusually barking out the window while my husband was out of town & I was home alone with the kids. All was well both times, but the officers arrived quickly (within minutes both times) were extremely nice (officers & dispatchers) & didn't make me feel foolish or like I was overreacting. My family & I really appreciate the work they do!!
