This place is good as far as gym membership but as a family trying to make the best out of the situation this place is not it. Its ran by a bunch of ghetto ass people that do not care about the families just the money that they can receive... There are bed bugs here there are mice here roaches like big water bug roaches I never seen an exterminator visit and the only time they tidy up the place is when welfare is coming... so if you're looking for a good gym the YMCA is the place but if you looking for a place for you and your family to stay while you try to get on your feet I repeat do not come to the YMCA!!! it's like Bad Girls Club & Love & Hip Hop YMCA shelter Edition!!

I cannot recommend this YMCA as it is not well managed.  In Q1 2017, during  listed open pool hours, the pool was closed just as much as it was open. When I brought this problem up to their management, as a paying customer, I was ignored.  

Be sure to call ahead if you plan to swim.  Otherwise you may show up with your swimsuit and no pool to swim in.

I will still go to YMCAs, but not the Newark YMCA.  Having said that, the Rutgers Newark gym is open to the public and very reasonably priced.

Freaking awesome I stopped by while waiting to drive back to California. The steam room was sooo warm. I had a good sweat. I'm really hoping people were just nice and not gay. I'm just a guy getting centered with Gods help at the Y. Ubered it in and out. They sell Chinese food right in the building. Great place. POOL CLOSED THO??

The Newark Y is one of Newark's best kept secrets. I have been a member for 4 years, and love it! Of course there is room for improvements, but where can you go where there isn't. I specifically go for the Aqua Aerobics. Again, the classes as well as the instructor are great! I can go on and on, but I suggest that you come down for the day, and establish your own opinion. Oh, did I mention the fee? Well it's also great. They even have a sliding scale for those whose income fits a certain criteria. With all that being said, just come check it out for yourself!

I'd been a member on/off for a number of years. When I finally rejoined, it was like coming home. I had a good workout at the gym and I felt at peace afterwards. I plan on making this a regular thing from now on!
