Zoos in general are kind of sad. Just my opinion. Two days after my visit the tiger died. She had back surgery but she still had problems. So they put her down BUT she was about 15 years old, the maximum tiger age.  If she had been in the wild she would most likely have died at a much younger age! Zoo Boise does a good job with what they have and they obviously care about the animals. They also plan to expand. Lots of kid friendly things to do like a carousel and animal encounters. You can also have a zoo sleepover.

Great place to take the kids. Plenty to see here. I got in on a free zoo day around Valentine's Day and they were giving the animals presents. Was really fun! Pretty crowded but that's completely reasonable on a free day haha.

I love, love, love this place! Really fun and educational, but before expanding to add more animals, I'd love to see larger enclosures & habitats for the exhisting animals...but then again, I grew up going to the Woodland Park Zoo, in Seattle, all the time, so maybe my expectations are unrealistic. It also seems as though the Boise zoo has had a long streak of bad luck concerning the health & mortality of quite a number of their animals, for a little while. Its sad, and concerning.

The person or persons appointed to oversee the running of the zoo should be ashamed of themselves.

Recently a friend and I were on a good neiborhood website searching for a place where the two of us could volunteer together. We saw that Zoo Boise was seeking volunteers.

As we read the description, we were both so appalled.  

If a person is interested in being a volunteer they must pay the zoo a non refundable application fee of $50. Following that, if they accept your offer to volunteer your time, you must commit to volunteer a specific number of hours a week. I think it was 24. They also require some other screening for which the volunteer is financially responsible for .

The application fee is the most appalling of all.

Shame on you Zoo Boise.

We are lucky to have such a lovely small zoo here in Boise. We always have a nice time everytime we go. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful and there is always something going on so you can interact with some of the animals.
