My husband and I have been patients of Downtown Decatur medical Practice for many years. The parking situation at Renaissance Parking deck-250 E Ponce has always been very poorly designed and difficult to negotiate. However, this morning, Feb. 7, 2018 was the limit of my patience. The weather was very bad, but my husband had to get a flu shot from his doctor. We arrived at the office and parked in the lot. We were in the lot no more than 15 minutes. When we tried to exit the lot, I inserted the parking ticket and was charged $2 for those 15 minutes. It has been my experience that most lots do not charge for less than 30 minutes. However, I tried to pay with a $5 bill which was difficult because of the rain. There was no one in the parking kiosk so I had no choice. After the money was inserted, I did not get back any change and the exit barrier arm did not move up. I tried to call for assistance with no response so I tried a credit card. After 3-4 tries, the credit card finally worked and the barrier went up, My 82 year old husband had to get out of the car in the pouring rain and try to help me. As I was exiting the lot, I finally heard someone answer the assistance button. Since I was going out of the lot and there were 4-5 cars behind me, I did not stop to answer., This parking garage is a complete rip[off. I am considering changing doctors after over 20 years so I do not have to endure this parking travesty again. Teresa Pawlik, EdD
