First time visiting this old school New York Deli, and it was very good as I had hoped. I really like that they slice The Corned Beef and pastrami thin, as it should be, it just makes the sandwich all that more juicy and flavorful. Very friendly and laid-back inside, great place to duck in and have a great lunch on a cold/rainy day. Slightly on the expensive sideNY! but generally worth it as they serve a superior product! Among the top delis in New York!
This is a very traditional dining place in NYC, and it is not located in its original location anymore. You can see its history in the walls, the decor and the menu. I felt very culturally enriched by eating at the 2nd Ave Deli. Service was approachable and fun. The food was good, although not stellar. I have had better matzo ball soup and pastrami/corned beef sandwiches. The twin double especially is a little too expensive for what it is. What bumped this meal was my “dessert”, the triple shot chocolate fountain soda. I was extremely surprised at how tasty chocolate soda can be! It was really a wild ride through childhood. Overall a nice experience.
Very delicious and thin cut deli meat. One of the few places in New York City that is authentically kosher. The pastrami is very great in flavor. Also highly recommend trying their chocolate flavored soda. Only thing is that the food is very expensive so not a place to affordability go on a regular basis.
The best pastrami sandwich I have ever had. It was so good and tender that all other pastrami sandwiches will not taste good afterwards. A great experience for foodies that want to try an authentic New York City deli
Awesome old school deli with friendly service and killer pastrami sandwiches featuring a mountain of thinly sliced pastrami that’s oh so tender. They have 2 locations - this one and another on the UES. I’ve been to both and they’re equally good - just depends what part of town you’re in.
UGH, so good!! I got salmon and scrambled eggs and it was literally divine. My husband got a gigantic sandwich that he couldn't even finish a full 1/2 of! We got a piece of Chocolate Babka at the end of our meal and it was delicious. We wanted to go back again in just the week we were in New York!
Good pastrami sandwich. Good, not great. The motzah ball soup was also bland and was missing the deep breadth of chicken flavor that was expected. The Nova Scotia salmon and eggs was good. Overall, the restaurant is a good local stop but not worth traveling across the country for.
What a great Deli spot in NYC. We heard about it the night before at the Jewish Deli exhibit at the New York Historical Society entitled, “I”ll have what she’s having.” We came in hungry and took the waiters recommendations. Matzo Ball Soup - fantastic. Pastrami and Corned Beed Half Sandwiches and fries. Babka - first time having this delicious dessert. Highly recommend this deli and the food was top notch.
my favorite nyc kosher deli! Always feels like being home no wonder almost every celebrity in New York has eaten here! the food is always fresh, sandwhiches are always big, stuffed cabbage is one if my favorites, always end with the apple strudel
The pastrami sandwich was a bit chewy, the meat was not tender, nothing special. Spinach knish was good. Service was fast. When we came in there was a line for people wanting to dine in, nobody mentioned we had to put our names on a list. After waiting for a while, people started coming in after us and the person working at the counter told them to add their names to the list and they did before we got a chance. A clear sign with instructions at the door would be helpful during busy hours.
