PLEASE READ! The academic quality in my opinion is the only thing that holds weight. Incoming freshmen please seek to be taught by the Eldest professors in your major/field of study. They've been around for a long time and they know more than the younger professors in the field. I've seen this proven true time and time again, they've developed teaching styles and patterns which are effective and engaging for student learning. A lot of my issue with this school stems from amateur instructors who are placed where they should not be and ALMOST ALWAYS will have the lowest review on rate my professor, failing students, miserable course reviews and more. And a great handful have only graduated after 2008 with their degrees. As for the students, well this is Long Island and most of the students who go here live in Long Island or are from one of the 5 boroughs. Long Island, historically being the most segregated borough in NYC, one would expect that the attitude is different. You have to find your niche at Adelphi, one of the most frustrating things is that you will run into a lot of snooty rich kids who sit high and look low. If the shoe fits wear it. The faculty can be a burden at times but if I were to include the faculty and students in my review it will not be 5 stars, maybe 2 or 3. However, having both lived on campus and commuted to Adelphi. The overall value of your education is based on the education you receive. And it is quality education. I can only speak for my school which is the Derner School of Advanced Psychological Studies. Good Luck!

I graduated from this school with a Bachelors in Management from the business school. I found the business school to have great professors and excellent classes. The school as a whole was tolerable. The Asst Dean of school affairs was beyond rude to me, I was told by the health staff that having Strep throat was not contagious and was given an asprin, on a separate occasion I ripped up my knee running to catch a train to school at Jamaica station, and health service refused to give me peroxide to clean my cut or provide even a band aid. Professors that teach elective classes, I found to be beyond boring and excessively harder than my core (required) classes. The extra-curricular activities are so thoroughly regulated that sneezing is hazing, and other than an intra-mural sport, the organizations aren't very fun. In addition, they fine students in organizations that don't go to school mandated events AND require a donation if you do go, such as Relay For Life. Look, it's not a bad school, but there's always an issue with something. Many visits to financial aid because they screwed up something, trying to sign up for classes but being locked out of what you need or want. Also this is a commuter school, so if you dorm, there isnt much to do on campus after hours or on the weekend and there isnt much nearby within walking distance (its in the middle of a residential neighborhood). There is a shuttle that runs until about 9 or 10 pm, and takes you to the mall or train station. All in all its an okay school but not the best. Good luck with your endeavors!

They are money hungry! Overall a good school. But they would find any excuse to add charges to your statement. If there's something you didn't want like a book voucher, and won't use, they will still charge you and then take months to return the money. If you over like $10 they will make sure the put a late payment fee of $150. And then they throw the blame from department to department so you can waste your time giving hundred phone calls. So ridiculous!!! Money don't grow in a tree. Students work hard to be able to pay their tuition or have bunch of loans that they need to pay back and the school just adds unnecessary charges. Ughhhh
