Had to leave my housing unit 3 times for work to be done, all motels had to stay at not for someone with a disability as I told them i needed and older son had to be in same rm which shouldn't have had to at his age..so due to this situation I have lost some of my mobility ,they need to work on helping people with disabilities and not always money i'm not saying it's easy, as alot of places don't take dogs so if got disabled rooms as needed wouldn't of lost mobility. I did get a food voucher but with the cost of food didn't go far..
A few years ago, I had the extreme misfortune of doing a student placement at Ontario Works under the "supervision" of Cheryl Parlett and Kim Doughty. I've struggled with whether or not to make this public, but my hope is that my feedback will allow future students and applicants to consider a different path in the interest of avoiding the harassment and traumatizing experience I endured. My time there is something that has continued to haunt me, even as a successful professional in the mental health field now. I was an eager excited student who signed on to learn about mental health and addictions, and was hopeful that being granted a placement there meant there was actual intent to teach, provide wisdom, and incorporate me into the staff. Disturbingly, what I received in place of supervision, teaching, and support, was neglect, hostility, discrimination, and intentional sabotage of my education. Particularly from a social worker named Kim Doughty, someone who intentionally excluded me, spoke down to me, belittled me, and made me feel unfit for this profession without so much as spending 5 minutes with me. As a result of her premature and baseless snap judgment, Kim deemed me incapable of basic client contact and purposely deprived me the opportunity to learn. She did this without informing me, without observing me, and without any intention of mentoring me. After learning of her insanely unfair and inappropriate evaluation of me, I watched her weep in a staff meeting as a result of a client's story, which struck me as obscenely hypocritical since she had concluded that my empathetic reaction towards a client's story when I first started there meant I was incapable of even speaking to them. Each day was a painful and uncomfortable fight to find my place and the tools to learn. What should have been my opportunity to observe professionals in the field turned into a traumatizing and horrific experience in which I frequently felt closed off, unfairly judged, and excluded. Rather than extending a hand to help when I was clearly struggling, Cheryl Parlett instead chose to tell me I was "awkward" and had bad work ethic, when it was clear I had nobody to learn from or work with. I could go on and on, but ultimately, it was one of the worst and most troubling experiences I've ever had, and people should be aware of the poisonous work culture and irresponsible cruel staff that work there.
I was very serprize that the parking lot was not plowed being the District. There was no sand down eather so it was quite slippery. Being a place of Government I was quite serprize.
Not recommended. Needs improvement.
