Food was absolutely delicious. You can’t go wrong with fresh pasta! The two dishes I tried were incredible. You can tell they take great pride in preparing fresh, quality dishes. Service was hands down the best I have had in San Diego. I highly recommend this place! Vegetarian options: They had a pasta and eggplant with a red sauce that was vegetarian. It was delicious!
The food here was superb! Was lucky enough to stop by while on holiday, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Had the Calamari antipasti, and it was excellent. Pasta is also excellent - handmade, and you can taste it!
I think I haven’t tried Italian food with this quality outside Italy like this place. AMAZING FOOD.
Al Dente is staffed by attentive, accommodating, friendly, and genuine individuals. The menu is diverse with plenty of food and drink options, the atmosphere is aesthetically pleasing and the food is phenomenal. Highly recommend.
San Diego’s newest Italian. Authentic. Excellent food. I recommend the duck pappardelle. Pasta is homemade, Wine is spot on. Price is in range. Ask for James!!! PS - a must for gluten free pasta lovers!
The best carbonara I've ever had. The house made pasta was cooked perfectly and coated with a delicious creamy sauce, highlighted with fresh, thinly sliced pancetta and a few turns of freshly ground black pepper. Superb. We also loved the braised short ribs over risotto. The meat was fork tender and served in a rustic preparation of tomatoes, onions and herbs. The chicken with mushrooms was also excellent and hearty. The Siciliana salad featuring crisp green beans and tomatoes in a vinaigrette was a fresh and light accompaniment to the meal. The restaurant features an open concept kitchen, enabling diners to see the busy food prep. There is a small bar and indoor and outdoor seating with heat lamps. The inside does get very loud. Highly recommended for rustic, southern Italian cuisine.
Al Dente is a great new spot, with authentic and delicious Italian food! Everything I tried was so fresh, and I love the open kitchen concept where you can watch fresh pasta being made. The interior is decorated so well, and the back patio is a great space! When you first walk in, you might think there isn’t much seating but the back patio, if you walk through the restaurant, is huge. I could see them having live music out there in the summer! Definitely make plans to stop in and try Al Dente, I already can’t wait to go back
Amazing food and service. I am somewhat biased when it comes to Italian food being from NYC, but Al Dente was on point. The arancini were delicious and the short rib with risotto was amazing and usually I am not a big fan of risotto. The staff was extremely friendly and you can tell the chef is very passionate about every plate. Highly recommend!
Best Italian restaurant in town, we love it, we spent an amazing time there, I really recommend it. Amazing service, deliciously dished, I felt like at home: we will come back soon :-
As you can see from my profile I don't ever write reviews, but this gem of San Diego was so unbelievably fantastic that it warranted a 5 Star Review. First, my wife and I decided to give this place a try after seeing them on Instagram. We went in on a Monday around 5 yes, we like early dinners and the place was absolutely empty. We were greeted promptly from Manuela I believe that was her name. The place was spotlessly clean and quaint, with a viewing room to watch fresh pasta being made. We were seated, water poured, and given some recommendations for the menu. We decided to start with the trio of arancini. They came out quickly and were fried to perfection. The rice inside perfectly creamy and each one better than the next. The first was the ham and béchamel, followed by the short rib and mascarpone, and ending with the truffle and porcini. They were absolutely delicious. Our entrees came out shortly after. My wife had the fettuccine pistachio with burrata, and I had the duck pappardelle. The only way to describe this was "breathtaking." All the pasta was perfectly cooked. My wife's dish was creamy, herbaceous, nutty, and delicious. My dish was beyond words. The duck ragout was so flavorful and deep. I did find a small bone or two in the ragout, but rather than be upset, I was rather glad and appreciative, as it showed the braised and stewed duck had been shredded by hand. We were so enamored by our dishes, it was hard to pull away from them, but we knew we HAD to try their desserts. We ordered the tiramisu and were delighted when Manuela surprised us with a complimentary limoncello sponge cake as well. Both desserts were light, delicate, and packed full of flavor. Throughout our entire meal Manuela was attentive and personable. The food was extraordinary which was complimented by service of the same caliber. Needless to say, we will definitely be going back.
