We went in yesterday to get my old tank set up again. They carried replacement lids and lights, were able to recommend the best filter option and power jet, and answered all the questions my son and I had about the fish we wanted to get as well as the plants. When it came time to buy everything, they set us up with the various chemicals we would need to keep the water at the right ph balance and keep the fish healthy. The staff were super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and I highly recommend this store whether you are a novice with aquariums or have kept fish a long time. They have a good selection of both fresh and salt water fish, and the fish all looked to be in good health. Their display tanks were not over crowded at all, nor were they bare.

We wanted a tank and knew almost nothing about it. These guys helped us through the entire process with so much patience, knowledge and experience. Whether it was the plants or the fish or the rocks or the wood, whatever it was, they were awesome to deal with! Now, we have a gorgeous tank full of wonderful, colorful creatures and it's everything we dreamed of and more!! We highly recommend Albany Aquarium because of the range of fish and accessories but mostly because of the extremely knowledgeable, caring and professional staff.

Never have gotten a sick fish. The staff are smart and helpful and they have a decent freshwater selection. I've been to many other east bay fish stores but Albany aquarium is by far the best!

Somewhat expensive, but they have a nice selection of plants. For common fish, Petco is just down the street. There's also the slightly cheaper Tropical Fish World nearby. Only other store with a decent plant selection is in SF (Aqua Forest).
