Story

The Uptown Theater, also known as The Uptown or AMC Loews Uptown 1, is a historic single-screen movie theater in the Cleveland Park neighborhood of Washington, D.C.HistoryOpened on October 29, 1936, the theater has hosted many Hollywood premieres and is widely considered "the best screen" in its metro area. The theater was designed by architect John Jacob Zink, whose firm designed over 200 theaters across the United States. Nothing remains of the original decor. The theater originally seated 1,120, but a $500,000 renovation in 1996 decreased capacity to 850.The Uptown has a curved, 70ft long and 40ft high screen, one of the largest in the area.In December 2010, the theater's Norelco 35mm/70mm projector was dismantled and replaced with a Christie Dual-Projector 3D system for the opening of Tron: Legacy.

A single-screen theater with plenty of seating in an urban residential area near downtown D.C. at a red-line Metro stop (Connecticut Ave. NW). It seems well maintained but does show its age here and there such as some restrooms on a different floor. I've used street parking when I drive but it will be up side streets. Projected images and sound were fine, even for 3-d. Food service is limited to traditional snack-bar fare but there are several nearby restaurants of various kinds. Near the national zoo.

5-Stars because it is intrinsically amazing, however... We need to tell AMC to put some money into its historic refurbishment. How long has the neon letter "O" in the sign been out? A LONG time. Bulbs in the marquis down below need changing. These things are basic upkeep. There is so much more that could be done that would keep the lines going around the block for years. I certainly have ideas. They need to know that this is a valued historic neighborhood gem that only needs polishing for it to be a destination for movie-goers from across the country. Weigh in, folks, and let's see about getting it back to its original splendor!

Pretty quiet little theater. Went there to see Black Panther.. Line went around the corner but amazing they got everyone in their seats on time! Getting tickets was easy due to online ordering. I would give it 5 stars but the decor looks old and the restrooms are located upstairs.

THE theater to see a blockbuster movie in DC. It's been around since the 1940s and has a single, two-story high movie screen. There is a balcony level to watch the screen from! The seats are comfortable and the snacks are standard movie theater fair. Locals know this is the place to go for exciting movies. There is a nice array of restaurants and bars across the street, so this is a great spot, on top of the Cleveland Park Metro, for dinner and a movie.

Nice vintage looking theater that they've kept in good condition. One theater building but really crowded on major release days and kind of cool going to see a movie and knowing everyone in the building is watching it
